Part-time Faculty: Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Instructor Lakeland Community College is seeking an Emergency Medical Services adjunct instructor to teach the EMT Basic Course on Monday and Wednesday evenings, on-campus, during the fall semester. EMTS 2011 – Paramedic-Beginner: This is an introductory course for Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P) which provides the basic knowledge and skill for general patient assessment, general pharmacology, pathophysiology of shock, burn management, communicable disease prevention, respiratory management, and trauma care in the pre-hospital setting. Classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences provide refinement of skills learned. This is the first of a series of four courses required for state certification Course Dates and Time: August 26, 2023 – December 15, 2023; Tuesday and Thursday 05:30pm-09:30pm, Saturday 8:30am-4:00pm. JOB DESCRIPTION: Serves as a departmental resource and provides instruction and assistance to the EMS program faculty and students. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides instruction of lectures and lab skills for EMS and paramedic courses to meet/exceed minimum requirements for the instructor to student ratio required for EMS program accreditation. Performs evaluation of student techniques for grades and competency. Exhibits patience and a positive attitude to establish an encouraging learning environment. Assists with the maintenance and cleanliness of the training lab. Responsible for set up and operation of the training lab. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Knowledge of EMS concepts, practices and procedures. Ability to diagnose and facilitate minor equipment repairs. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to work with and respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse student population. Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational and planning skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a paramedic in the State of Ohio. Current licensure in good standing as an EMS, Cardiac Technician, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician’s Assistant, or Physician. Current certification in BLS and ACLS from American Heart Association. Current state of Ohio EMS-Instructor, Assistant EMS-Instructor, or Continuing Education Instructor certification in order to teach an EMS Curriculum. If a candidate possesses a current Continuing Education Instructor or Assistant EMS-Instructor certification, he/she must obtain a state of Ohio EMS-Instructor certification within a year of being hired. Preferred: An Associate’s, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in emergency health services or a related field. Demonstrated experience as a classroom instructor and/or lab instructor in an EMS/Paramedic educational training program. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) to four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10 lbs. or less. COMPENSATION: Part-time faculty earn $792/unit of load.
