Pirate Ventures is looking to enlist a new crew member for the position of Comptroller. This role will be a hybrid part-time position with some remote hours as well as time in unit in the DMV area. It is a perfect role for someone looking to have a massive impact with their analytical and financial management acumen on a rapidly growing company. A strong sense of personal initiative is a must. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with multiple business units across the hospitality industry and be involved in the opening of new units in the region. This position will support the Executive Team, Hospitality Management, and outsourced Accounting Team. Some travel around the DC/VA/Baltimore area may be required. This is a hybrid position, where you will be able to work remotely, with one onsite weekly meeting in DC. If you thrive in a fast-paced and creative environment, we want to meet you. This position reports to the President. This position also works closely with other senior executives as appropriate. Responsibilities Be a relentless perfectionist with a positive attitude who has a high level of attention to mastering the minutia and competitive spirit Developing and forecasting budgets under the direction of Executive team Work with executive team on developing new business plans and financial modeling for new projects Implementing finance and accounting policies and procedures Manage weekly and quarterly reporting activities for unit level dashboards tied to revenue activities, and other necessary financial reporting Completing audits and financial compliance activities Monitoring and controlling cashflow through reporting and analysis Oversee the activities of the outsourced accounting services firm Navigate the seas of government websites to assist with taxes and licensing payments Spot check and reconcile to verify that transactions are recorded in the correct suppliers' ledger, customer ledger, and general ledger Oversee compliance associated with payroll accounting Ensure best operational efficiencies of the finance department through effective use of technologies Job Requirements Commitment to and alignment with company's core values Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment A "can do" attitude that focuses on getting the job done in a highly collaborative and positive way Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks, seamlessly, with excellent attention to detail in a busy work environment The crew member in this role must be tech-savvy, with a willingness to learn new systems Minimum of 10 years of previous experience as a Comptroller, Bookkeeper or Accounts Payable/Receivable Coordinator or similar role Proficient in Quickbooks Online (not desktop) Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products Knowledge of and experience with SharePoint, Ledger docs, Gusto payroll systems, or similar Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects Be Everyone an Entrepreneur and find new revenue streams and cost-savings measures Hospitality industry experience is a plus Resourceful team-player, with the ability to work independently Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response. Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience working in the hospitality sector preferred Must be an innovative problem solver at heart Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive professional Accounting/Comptroller experience.
