Summary The University of Michigan's Office of the Vice President and General Counsel (OGC) is seeking an experienced paralegal to support the growing work of OGC attorneys serving the academic medical center component of the University of Michigan ("Michigan Medicine") in its North Ingalls Building location in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The paralegal's primary role will be supporting attorneys in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts. Responsibilities* Work closely with supervising attorneys to draft, review, and negotiate contracts; Contracts will include, but are not limited to, procurement contracts, business associate agreements, data use/sharing agreements, collaborative agreements, professional services agreements, and academic affiliation agreements. Track and facilitate completion of contract review and manage contract files; Assist attorneys in drafting amendments and renewals of contracts; Participate, in rotation with other office paralegals, in the triaging of health care-related inquiries made by Michigan Medicine workforce members through the "attorney on-call" system; Assist with responding to document requests, subpoenas (including Michigan LARA subpoenas) and FOIA requests; Organize and maintain office files related to compliance efforts and internal and external investigations; and Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications* Paralegal certification or bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or comparable degree; Minimum 3 years of professional experience performing job-relevant legal responsibilities such as contract review and management; Ability to analyze the needs of internal clients and determine whether attorney interaction and follow-up is required; Proven ability to work professionally and with discretion in a high stress, fast-paced, client focused environment that serves a diverse population, including senior executives; frontline clinical staff and learners; multiple departments across Michigan Medicine and campus, as well as patients and their representatives; regulatory agencies; and various external representatives of the legal system; Self-sufficient, self-starter who is able to work independently but willing and able to ask for assistance and advice when needed; Strong project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and outstanding communication skills; Capable of managing many projects with competing priorities and deadlines and able to shift gears, re-prioritize, and remain focused on the multiple demands of the job; Demonstrated ability to use both logical and creative thinking skills and talents to enhance an office; Deep commitment to ethics, integrity, and compliance; Proficient conducting research using the Internet and Westlaw; Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and willing to learn new technologies; and Positive and supportive team member. Desired Qualifications* Experience with first review and triage of contracts in support of transactional attorneys; Experience developing or maintaining a contract/agreement templates; Experience in contract lifecycle management systems; Experience interpreting healthcare policies and procedures; Knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations; and Experience with Microsoft Teams.
