SGI Global is seeking a qualified Paralegal to to perform Paralegal Support for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Illinois. The candidate will perform tasks for affirmative civil fraud cases, including qui tams filed under the False Claims Act. The Contractor will work in a professional environment with Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSAs) and legal support for the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Illinois, to assist with the organization and handling of filed qui tam cases and affirmative civil fraud investigations. *Position is contingent upon award* In this capacity, the successful candidate will be expected to: Review a variety of both civil and criminal case documents and files to become familiar with the pertinent material. Support healthcare fraud investigations by analyzing a variety of materials, including medical billing and coding data, medical records, state and federal regulations and guidance, documents produced by targets of investigations, and investigative files. Proficiently utilize electronic discovery software and databases, including Relativity and Eclipse SE, to organize, review, and analyze voluminous document sets. Effectively communicate the results of investigative research and analysis by indentifying important evidence and legal issues. Establish and maintain an effective system of compiling, indexing, organizing, and analyzing large document productions and other records (both electronic and paper) obtained from outside sources. • Communicate professionally and maintain strong working relationships with law enforcement, government agencies, and other legal offices. Assist in preparing and conducting witness interviews and depositions by identifying relevant facts, documents, and issues. Assist in preparing and filing complaints, motions, legal briefs, proposed orders, and other documents in federal district court; preparing, tracking, and monitoring civil investigative demands; preparing internal memoranda; and responding to Justice Department reporting requirements. Maintain internal case files (both electronic and paper). Range of tasks includes, but is not limited to, opening and closing files; tracking court dockets and calendaring deadlines; scanning, photocopying, organizing, and binding paper records; creating and maintaining electronic folder structures; monitoring retaining, and organizing incoming and outgoing case related correspondence; uploading and downloading files; copying files to encrypted media; and mailing out discovery or correspondence to various federal agencies and opposing counsel. Assist in preparing for civil court proceedings. Range of tasks includes, but is not limited to, issuing subpoenas and summonses to appear; marking, compiling, organizing, photocopying, and indexing evidentiary exhibits; preparing narrative summaries, charts, tables, graphs, or other visual aids; drafting affidavits and witness declarations; preparing binders for cases; and assisting with courtroom evidence presentation. Assist office legal assistants by purging files after cases are closed, including properly disposing of unnecessary case records; shifting and rotating files so an organized filing system is maintained for the closed files; assigning each file a closed number; logging the number into a central index; boxing up files for shipment; and shipping closed files to the Record Center. Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer, photocopier, scanner, and fax machine to input and retrieve information, and to produce documents, correspondence, or forms. Meet established deadlines and work as a team player in a professional office. Communicate clearly and effectively in meetings, correspondence, and telephone conferences. Work and interact professionally and courteously with all levels of staff. Personnel Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess the following computer skills: applicant must be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and LexisNexis and/or Westlaw. The ability to review materials efficiently and accurately in Relativity and Eclipse SE is required. Possess the ability to quickly learn other software platforms and databases.
