Description:
The Painter performs such painting requirements as may arise throughout the campus to include surface preparation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Prepares surfaces for painting by taping, floating, texturing or other appropriate means. Removes and replaces: sheetrock, plaster & lath, tile, stucco and other wall/ceiling surfaces as needed. Performs minor carpentry work. Applies paint, stain and other finishes to property walls, ceilings, floors, and furniture by using spray equipment such as airless sprayer and cup gun, rollers and brushes. Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces for finish coats. Mixes tints and pigment to produce desired colors to include putty and stains; Mixes and applies sprayed-on acoustic and wall texture. Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting. Cover surfaces with appropriate material for protection during painting and post appropriate paint signs. Maintains paint equipment to keep it clean and serviceable along with adequate working stock of paint, stain, tints and equipment. Operates air compressor. Maintains a clean and safe working area. Assists other craftsmen as necessary. Operates electric golf cart as means of transportation. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED required; Five or more verifiable years as a painter. Must maintain a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance, and complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date. Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends as needed Must have the ability to demonstrate basic skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and common office equipment to include: computer, copier, and Ipad. Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English; must have ability to read written instructions, warning labels, SDS Sheets in English, understand blueprints and technical drawings. Must possess legible handwriting, possess eyesight in both eyes corrected to 20/20 and normal hearing ability (may be corrected); must s uccessfully pass a PIPIC test for color blindness. Must possess mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in order to compute material costs as required for completion of work order form. Must be able to successfully handle frustrating conditions such as limits on time and limited access to equipment. Provide excellent customer service. Ability to understand and observe general industry safety standards and work in an environment that requires a high level of security. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious relationships with the public, and fellow employees each day to assure / sustain quality service and appropriate interactions with others PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Able to carry 50 pounds up and down stairs Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/ stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, inclement weather, insects, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around gas lines; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular hours The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
