LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Optometrist reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PURPOSE: To provide comprehensive, quality eye and vision care to patients and to supervise all aspects of eye and vision care for HCHC patients . To be the director of the eye care service, to assure the clinical and operational success of the program, consistent with the mission of HCHC. RESPONSIBILITIES: In conjunction with other services and administration, assure that patients from both health centers have convenient access to comprehensive optometric services, on days and times that are collaboratively determined. Continue to maintain Massachusetts licensure and participate in related continuing education, professional and leadership development activities, as appropriate, including requirements for Board Certification, if relevant. Maintain proper patient records. Serve as a resource to staff. Other related duties as negotiated and/or assigned by Executive Director OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES OF OPTOMETRIST UNDER THE SCOPE OF PRACTICE Care Of HCHC Patients: History/exam/assessment/diagnosis Order and review test results Treatment: prescriptions/devices/modalities Referrals Follow-up Review of previous records/hospitalizations/consultations Phone messages (pharmacy, patients, families, agencies, insurance, consultants) Medical back-up for eye related problems. Emergency care to clinic patients within scope of practice for optometry. Supervise all aspects of patient care in the vision services department as appropriate: Home visits to patients of HCHC for eye services Nursing Home for eye servicesAdministrative work at the health center: Guideline/policy development Quality Improvement Hiring/evaluation of staff Participating in committees Assist in budget development for eye service Revenue cycle management review with Finance Director Practice strategies to enhance business operations Supervise eye services support staff. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a current/valid Massachusetts therapeutics level optometry license, and be eligible for board certification in optometry, if applicable.
