This position will require travel throughout Polk County. Will work in primarily at the Haines City Clinic. Will be required to work at various immunization outreaches and assist other clinics as needed. Your Specific Responsibilites: This position is for a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Haines City Clinic, whose priority functions will be (1) Providing childhood/adult immunizations 2) Maintain proper storage and handling of vaccines per Health Department policy and procedures 3) Provide counseling and teaching information regarding administered vaccines to client and/or client’s parent/legal guardian. 4) Assist in other clinic programs (OB, Family Planning, STD and Adult Health) to provide services to clients under the direction of a Registered Nurse, licensed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, and/or Physician in the clinic settings; IMMUNIZATIONS: Provide assessment and administration of immunizations, according to CDC and VFC protocol for pediatric clients and adult clients. Assess, educate and administer adult/childhood immunizations, according to protocol for clients of all ages. Provide counseling and teaching information regarding administered vaccines to client and/or client’s parent/legal guardian. Maintain proper storage and handling of vaccines per Health Department policy and procedures. Accurately complete “Immunization Clinic Record/Signature Card’ and all other documentation required per Health Department policy and procedures for vaccines administered. Entry of immunization history and immunizations given into Florida Shots. Order vaccines as needed, check expiration dates on vaccines and rotate as needed. Responsible for monitoring temperature controls with notation on appropriate logs for refrigerator and freezer per protocol. Handling, ordering, inventory and usage monitoring in accordance with Department of Health Policy 350-8-12 Serves as a resource leader for public and private sector vaccine providers (i.e., answers questions concerning vaccine recommendations, schedules, administration along with inventory and storage and handling issues) to improve immunization rates. CLINIC: Interview and assist providers with clients with specific medical problems or routine health care needs. Assist ARNP and physician with examinations and medical procedures for clients. Perform routine diagnostic tests, procedures such as taking/recording temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure; preparing clients for medical procedures; and collecting specimens for laboratory analysis. Report any unusual symptoms of clients to clinic charge nurse, ARNP, and/or physician. Provide documentation in client EHR records in accordance with Health Department standards. Administers IM medications according to the provider’s orders. Assists in maintaining the medication inventory. Clean work area according to clinic policy and biohazardous waste policy. Maintain accurate and complete medical records. Assists with case management of clients and make referrals for clients needing follow-up treatment. Assists in the lab to process specimens, run lab reports, file lab reports, and follow-up on late/missing lab reports. This position serves clients that speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages. It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bilingual, or implementation of the Department’s Limited English Proficiency Plan, OTHER DUTIES: Performs inventory and ordering of supplies, medications, and vaccines. Sterilize instruments in accordance with Health Department policy and procedures. May direct activities of other employees as instructed by the clinic supervisor. Participate in orientation and staff development activities. Assists in orientation of new employees, students and volunteers assigned to the clinic area. Maintains and increases competency through educational materials and education classes. Maintains time/attendance/travel/EARs records. As a state employee at the PCHD – employee will participate in disaster preparedness and recovery activities. Performs other duties as required, including performance of additional interpreter duties, consistent with skill level, and as needed. Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques. Knowledge of immunizations and time schedules. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of basic computer software and electronic health records. Skill in the use of medical equipment & instruments used in providing nursing care. Skill in performing various lab testing. Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity. Ability to administer medications. Ability to work with patients. Ability to interpret and follow medical instructions. Ability to observe patient's symptoms and reactions to treatment. Ability to keep accurate records Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with others. Licensure/registration/certification requirement (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): This occupation requires licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.
