ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE BOARD The New York City Campaign Finance Board oversees New York City’s small donor democracy program and educates and engages voters via NYC Votes. The CFB has enjoyed a tremendous arc of progress over its 30-year history, and our updated flagship small donor democracy program is a centerpiece of this progress. We eliminate barriers to participation by providing access to the resources New Yorkers need to vote or run for office and amplify the voices of small donors with New York City’s small donor democracy program. We are dedicated to making New York City’s local democracy more open, transparent, and equitable. You would be working with a team that is mission-driven and committed to continuous improvement.The Public Affairs division promotes the agency’s key role in equipping all candidates and voters to power a fairer and more open democracy in New York City. We engage New Yorkers, inform them about elections, and boost their civic participation in the democratic process. Within Public Affairs, the Product Management and Operations unit is responsible for maintaining the division’s work plan and project management of the agency’s direct-to-voter communications, including our websites, citywide advertising campaigns, and the Voter Guide posted online and mailed to over 5 million registered voters.Reporting to the Language Access Manager, this role supports the day-to-day operations of the language access team for a variety of projects, including the translation of the print and online Voter Guide into 13 languages, paid media campaigns, social media toolkits, and other public-facing materials. This is an exciting opportunity for a language industry professional who wants to help make local government more accessible and responsive to the needs of immigrant communities in New York City. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Serve as point-person for the day-to-day coordination of language services requests, which includes responding to requests, prepping files, coordinating with internal and external linguistic resources, troubleshooting, communicating the status of projects with stakeholders, and delivering translated or transcreated content.Assist with the localization of in 13 languages.Coordinate interpretation, ASL, and/or CART requests with external vendors.Track project status and assist in reporting.Maintain and update linguistic resources to improve quality, such as style guides, glossaries, term bases, and translation memories.When appropriate, solicit, evaluate, and incorporate feedback from stakeholders, including community organizations.Provide feedback to internal and external linguistic resources.Provide backup support translating, editing, and QA’ing content (target language depends on the specialization of the candidate – see Essential Skills and Background).Assist in researching and developing resources such as procedural documents, 1-pagers, and guides to advance internal workflows, concepts, and practices.Support language access training to the unit and agency.Provide support with other language access projects and initiatives, as needed.Assists the agency in achieving its overall mission. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Strong project coordination skills with the ability to scope, prioritize, and deliver projects.Excellent organization and time management skills and experience working with multiple stakeholders to address problems.Proven experience with translation technologies, including CAT Tools (i.e., Trados Team, Phrase, or MemoQ) and website localization management systems, (i.e., Smartling).Experience with translation, localization, and transcreation workflows and best practices.Experience creating and maintaining linguistic assets, such as translation memories, term bases, and style guides.Familiarity with basic multilingual UX and UAT testing best practices.Experience with tracking and reporting.Able to work well under pressure and effectively prioritize tasks to keep team members focused amidst shifting timelines and needs.Strong communicator and collaborator who can adapt to a variety of work styles.Skillfully synthesizes feedback and edits from multiple stakeholders and ensures that they are executed accurately.Reliable and self-directed team member with a strong ability to identify and propose solutions to unexpected obstacles and challenges.Strong critical thinking skills, ability to think creatively, adaptability to new approaches and innovative solutions to intricate problems.Self-starter who can take initiative and work both individually and collaboratively as part of a team.Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications, such as Word, Excel, Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets.Native fluency in another language (Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Punjabi, or Urdu, preferred).Higher education degree with a concentration in linguistics, foreign languages, or a relevant field.At least 2 years of work experience as a language services, language access, translation, or localization project coordinator. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with OneDrive, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.Familiarity with Adobe applications such as InDesign and Illustrator.Familiarity with basic data management.Experience working with limited English-speaking (LEP) immigrant communities in New York City. Interest in and commitment to expanding accessibility and civic engagement for New Yorkers with limited English proficiency, demonstrated by past volunteer or professional experiences. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by at least twelve-semester credits (or the equivalent of twelve-semester credits) in accounting, auditing, business or public administration, computer science, economics, finance, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related area of study and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in accounting, auditing (including compliance or investigative auditing), business or public administration, business analysis, computer science, database administration, economics, finance, fiscal or economic management or research, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related field; orA four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in “1” above; orEducation and/or experience equivalent to “1” above.
