The University of MIssouriDepartment of Pediatrics - Pediatric Critical CareNurse Practitioner General working hours may be adjusted based on personal needs of the successful candidate but would generally be expected to be Monday 6 AM to 7PM, Tuesday to Thursday 6AM to 3PM, Friday 6AM to 1PM. It is anticipated that the APP take at least on day of call and no more than one week total of call during the year. Education: Master's degree is required. Required Licensure or Certification: Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program. May possess a specialty certificate by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), the Pediatric Certification Nursing Board (PCNB), and the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Missouri and must be granted “Document of Recognition” as a certified nurse practitioner from the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The ideal candidate will play an instrumental role in the success of sustaining our department’s mission; advance the clinical, research and teaching components of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Missouri. *Assist faculty and residents in management of pediatric patients; setting would primarily be in-patient but may include visiting clinics. Duties would include evaluating patients, ordering tests, reviewing treatment plans, ordering therapies, communication among medical teams, and completing documentation. Assisting with procedures will also be a component of patient care. *Be able to efficiently obtain and document a history and physical and be able to relate other aspects of a patient’s medical information to their pediatric critical care. This role will include evaluation of new patient consultations and triage of urgent established patients. *Perform physical examinations, order diagnostic tests, and perform invasive and non-invasive pediatric interventions. The advance practice practitioner would become proficient in simple and complex pediatric intensive care. *Excellent care documentation is an expectation of the candidate. *The above traits and abilities would allow the selected candidate to become an integrated member of the Pediatric Critical Care team. The candidate will: participate in morning work rounds with house staff, assist with order entry and arranging ancillary testing for in-patients, admit patients to the hospital (planned or otherwise), engage in the evaluation, triage, and treatment of in-patient and emergency department consultation requests, improve patient and family education, and facilitate discharge planning and timely discharges. *Participate in educational and training activities of the Division of Pediatric Critical care to include regular attendance at teaching conferences and seminars. *Participate in research studies and clinical trials will be a component of duties as determined by the establishment of studies and trials. * The candidate should be of high integrity, flexible, collaborative, self-motivated, detail oriented, efficient, and patient-centered. The candidate would report to the division chief or delegate and would be required to have an excellent relationship with resident physicians.
