Position Overview Under the general supervision of the Program Director, Surgery and in collaboration with the Department Head, Anesthesia and in collaboration with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) Medical Director – Acute Pain, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface Hospital, the NURSE CLINICIAN is responsible for: attending to the acute pain management needs of the inpatient population; acting as a clinical resource for non-acute pain consults; teaching acute pain management to patients/families and staff; participating in clinical, educational and research activities; and serving as a contact and resource person for all programs as time permits; assuming a leadership role in coordinating patient pain management care within the health care team to ensure quality patient care outcomes; participating in an inter-professional patient centered approach to care based on best practice; assisting the Anesthesiologist on the inpatient units, OR and critical care areas to establish regional blocks/catheters as required. The incumbent will provide services in accordance with the Guidelines for Shared Competencies and Delegated Physician Services (College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba and College of Physicians and Surgeons.
