JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Elementary School Director, serve as a general education classroom teacher through planning and delivering instructional lessons aligned with the California common core standards. Teachers at Arts in Action draw upon resources from iReady, Bookworms and 95 Phonics and Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop to develop engaging and rigorous lessons. Teachers drive the mission and vision of the school forward by integrating arts into their classrooms and leading students to think about the social inequities in the world and inspiring students to enact change. RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote the academic success and holistic growth of all students, collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design and instruction Use ongoing assessments to adapt instruction to students’ needs and monitor progress Facilitate parent conferences and meet with parents to communicate student’s strengths and areas for improvement Participate in SSPT and IEP meetings and plan implementation as needed Lead whole group and small group instruction as appropriate Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students Structure a physical classroom environment conducive to learning, to include efficient classroom management procedures based on restorative practices Understand and organize subject matter for student learning by developing and implementing an appropriate Scope and Sequence Engage and support all students in learning by planning standards-based lessons Establish and maintain expected standards of student behavior with administrative support Participate and collaborate in grade-level meetings, staff meetings and Professional Learning Communities Build relationships with students, staff and parents Develop as a professional educator and seek to improve competency by regularly participating in professional growth activities Share the responsibility of communicating the educational program to the community through such activities as back to school nights, parent conferences, and family nights Teaching at Arts in Action Community Charter School is unique in the following ways: Multiple structures for creating strong school culture, including AIA Creed, Morning Meeting, Character Strong social-emotional curriculum, and Restorative Justice practices Social Justice project based learning where students study current social problems and engage in actions to improve those issues Full-time counseling and behavior team on staff to support students and families with behavior and students’ socio- emotional well-being Regular coaching and observation opportunities Scheduled teacher collaboration and common planning time during the school day Assistant Teachers who are assigned to support classroom instruction and help lead intervention QUALIFICATIONS: California multiple-subject teaching credential required Classroom teaching experience strongly preferred Ability to establish/foster a positive and safe school culture Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution Possesses a growth mindset and a love of learning Bilingual in Spanish preferred Strong oral and written communication skills PHYSICAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical ability to occasionally carry up to 50 pounds (for mail delivery) The physical ability to participate in repetitive movements (typing, sitting down, filing paperwork) The physical ability to occasionally crouch down or squat (assisting in first aid duties) This position works primarily indoors in indoor offices with some outdoor work (including eating and common area(s), auditorium, playground(s), restroom(s), stairs if applicable, and parking lot(s)) with the following possible exposures: dust; wind; sun; insects; bloodborne pathogens and biohazardous waste; variances in temperature (50 degrees to 120 degrees); variances in weather conditions (snow, rain, sleet, etc.); noise which can range from quiet to loud (in excess of 600 students on campus at any given time); fast paced work environment with possible stressful situations and need to multitask; traffic congestion; playground projectiles such as baseballs, footballs, basketballs, etc.; intervening physically to stop conflicts between angry or emotionally upset students; and, dealing with students, parents, employees and the general public who may exhibit unpredictable or anti-social behavior. Employees in this position may have a higher level of exposure to illness or infection from students. May be exposed to students who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable behavior, display physically aggressive behavior, and insult your personal characteristics including appearance, age, sex and race. There is also frequent contact with staff and the public. Handle quick turnaround times, multiple deadlines and prioritizing multiple tasks Handling high levels of stressful situations and responsibilities The ability to be present during the hours necessary to complete the requirements of the position Consistent attendance WAGE AND BENEFITS: The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience; a competitive benefits package is included. The salary range is $67,860-$121,000. Teachers are compensated based on their placement on a salary scale divided into the categories of developing, lead and distinguished teacher. Compensation is determined based on years of teaching, expertise and education units.
