Accent Controls, Inc. (ACI) is seeking a full-time Motor Vehicle Mechanic to support field and sustainment level maintenance at Fort Gordon Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), located at Fort Gordon, Georgia. The non-exempt job classification is covered under The McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA) and the contract's collective bargaining agreement (CBA) . Service employees are compensated per the prevailing wage rates and fringe benefits that are set by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division's WDs 29 CFR Part 541 and 29 CFR 4.163(f) , unless otherwise modified by a CBA between labor and management. Job Summary The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Essential Functions Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required. Replacing worn of broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves, rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. Determines general condition of vehicles or equipment, nature of malfunctions and extent of needed repairs using equipment such as aligning machines, test equipment, gauges, oscilloscopes, stroboscopes, dynamometers, wheel balancing etc. Checks condition and replace all fluids, coolants and lubricants as needed. Uses hoists, hand tools, power tools and power equipment such as valve refining machines, brake drum lathes, aligning machines, etc. Maintains and cleans tools and equipment. Performs general preventive maintenance as assigned. Marginal Functions: Performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for conforming to all safe work practices and procedures. Responsible for keeping work area clean and orderly. Aids lower-classification employees. Working Conditions Subject to working outdoors during periods of inclement weather. Works on concrete floors and in drafty areas. May be exposed to fumes, fluids, dirt, battery acids, etc., resulting in bruises, cuts, burns, and skin irritation. Wearing of protective wear and other safety equipment is required during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions. Physical and Mental Demands Including, but not limited to, standing, squatting, lifting (up to 50 pounds or more); carrying, walking; pushing and pulling Including, but not limited to, sitting and driving Including, but not limited to, problem-solving, decision-making, data interpretation, organization; reading and writing Qualifications Four years' experience as automotive or heavy equipment mechanic in an acknowledged commercial or governmental repair program. Must have full knowledge of and the ability to troubleshoot and repair both gasoline and diesel-powered internal combustion engines associated with power trains, air and hydraulic brake systems and all other vehicular component parts. Must be able to read and comprehend technical manuals and publications to interpret mechanical specifications, tolerance limits, and troubleshooting and repair techniques. Must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain applicable military driver's license within 30 days. May require CDL endorsements for equipment/vehicles operated. Formal certification highly desirable. Some positions may require individual to pass an annual physical examination. Specific positions may require the individual to possess or obtain a security clearance and/or pass ability to pass a background investigation to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card.
