POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES GLA educators are fired up about teaching and learning. They want to spend their time immersing themselves in the rich content that they teach. English Language Arts teachers at GLA build thinking classrooms . Scholars are encouraged to be curious and ask questions for clarification when they need to better understand something, understand conceptual understandings, and solve authentic, real-world problems to promote critical thinking. The Middle School English Language Arts Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks: Design ing rigorous, PA C ore standards- aligned lessons based on the standards for English Language Arts practice and con tent Plan for class activities, including preparing units and daily lesson plans, identifying materials to implement class activities, preparing class projects, giving children feedback on completed work to ensure mastery of presented material, and grading of tests and assignments in a timely manner. Establishing and communicating clear objectives for lessons, units and projects Maintaining positive relationships with s cholars , parents, coworkers and supervisors Creating a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment Work ing with s cholars in both s mall groups and large groups Tracking and evaluating student academic progress Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence Identify the educational needs of scholars and altering instruction to meet student needs Communicate with parents on a regular basis about schedule, assignments, events, and individual scholar needs. Meet with parents during scheduled conferences during the school year. **Other duties as assigned by CEO, Principal, or Academy Leader ** QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty exceptionally. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required in field of education CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES It is preferred that the middle school English Language Arts teacher have a current teaching license (Grades 4-8 English) PROFESSIONAL DEMEANOR AND CHARACTERISTICS Ability to demonstrate initiative, leadership, collaboration, and independent thinking. Must possess strong people skills and emotional intelligence when dealing with students, parents, and colleagues, as well as a demonstrated understanding of and investment in the School . COMPENSATION Initial salary offers for this position range from $47,000 - $75,000. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience and levels of attained education . This role is eligible for up to $5,000 in sign-on bonuses.
