THOMAS - HOUSTON DEPARTMENT: COUNSELING AND WELLNESS MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR/PSYCHOLOGIST The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time licensed Mental Health Counselor (LPC or LCSW) in the Counseling and Wellness Services (CWS) department. Job Summary: Spring 2023 and forward, t he Counselor will provide ongoing and direct counseling, wellness, and formative services to enrolled students. The Counselor will provide individual psychotherapy, manage his or her own case load, see intake appointments; manage crises by seeing walk-in emergencies and rotating for a week, once every 6 weeks, through the On-Call system for after hours emergencies. The successful candidate will conduct outreach activities including participation in: Formation Events; Wellness Initiatives; University Presentations: outreach to student groups. The ideal candidate supports the traditional Catholic understanding of the human person and animates his or her work with this vision. The ideal candidate would also be able to address a variety of college mental health issues. Preferably, the counselor will be experienced in faculty and staff consultations; AND in substance abuse assessments and interventions; OR treatment of eating disorders; OR treatment of personality disorders. He or she will be able to function effectively as part of a team. The ideal candidate would also be bilingual in English and Spanish. This position reports directly to the Director of Counseling and Wellness Services . Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the CWS office in promoting departmental initiatives to guide students in their search for truth and their growth in self-knowledge, intellectual skills, and wisdom. Collaborate with other departments in providing students with an environment that helps with their formation and their discernment. Support and promote initiatives outside of the classroom that enhance students' learning experience of the Core Curriculum. Manage individual clinical caseload and associated documentation; services provided to both undergraduate and graduate populations. Develop and implement campus outreach programs to student groups regarding human formation, discernment, mental health issues, well-being, and study skills. Assist in providing orientation, training, and professional development to all CWS team members as needed. Conduct faculty and staff consultations; provide training as requested. Supervise practicum students and interns. Provide counseling support services (information and referral) to University personnel. Participate in departmental meetings, clinical staffings, and training. Provide counseling crisis intervention on campus as needed including occasional on-call accessibility by telephone outside business hours. Work occasionally for UST or CWS initiatives outside of business hours. Participate in relevant Student Affairs meetings, committees, teams, or events. Participate in University committees as appropriate. Willingness to establish networks through professional affiliations. Execute yearly goals. Perform all other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Qualifications: A Master's Degree required in psychology, counseling, or social work. Licensed mental health professional in the State of Texas (LPC, LCSW, or LP; additionally, LPC-A and LMSW licenses may be considered). A minimum of one year experience in providing psychological counseling services to an adult population required; experience in a college or university counseling center preferred. Highly competent in professional, ethical, and legal standards in the field of mental health. Familiarity with and willingness to support and advance the teachings and doctrines of the Catholic Church. Demonstrate knowledge about college mental health issues. Effective and proficient oral and written communication skills. Strong documentation habits, good organizational skills, and ability to multi-task. Computer skills that include working knowledge of documentation/scheduling software. Ability to relate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and students' parents. Required to maintain their own professional liability insurance, all State of Texas licensing credentials, and continuing education units (CEU's) requirements. Working Conditions: Ability to offer on or off campus clinical services and supervision as determined by supervisors; Position will require the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
