Requisition No: 825736 Agency: Department of Health Working Title: MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST IV - SES - 64026330 Pay Plan: SES Position Number: 64026330 Salary: $1,963.23 - $3,461.54 Biweekly Posting Closing Date: 06/26/2024 Total Compensation Estimator Tool FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH - OPEN COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITY Bureau of Public Health Laboratories Miami Laboratory Salary Range: $1,963.23 - $3,461.54 Biweekly SALARY WILL BE BASED ON CURRENT STATE EMPLOYMENT AS WELL AS SKILL AND EXPERTISE Your Specific Responsibilities: This is a senior scientist position directly in charge of the Clinical Testing Sections at the Miami Laboratory, including the Microbiology, Parasitology, Serology and Virology testing sections. This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets. Incumbent oversees the operation in the Clinical Testing Sections at the Miami Laboratory, including Microbiology, Serology, Parasitology, and virology testing sections. The incumbent supervises and performs a variety of technical duties throughout the clinical test sections of the laboratory, as required, plus adjusts personnel needs to daily workloads within the testing sections. The incumbent reviews the on-going quality control and quality assurance programs within these sections, providing oversight for pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical associated with such testing. The incumbent evaluates and selects proper test method for the analysis, select analytical equipment, and perform method validations for new assays. The incumbent oversees the Triage Department, ensuring that staffing is adequate and suitable for managing all receiving, shipping, and accessioning duties at the Miami Laboratory. Performs ordering of supplies to help maintain up-to date inventory of supplies, reagents, and media in the clinical sections of the laboratory. Incumbent ensures that the laboratory always has a safety committee in place. Monitors safety committee activities and provides supervision for the Laboratory Safety Officer. Have ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all new laboratory personnel receive safety training within 30 days of employment and that all employees are given safety training updates annually. Ensures the facilitation of required training for the Miami Laboratory. Manages the laboratory’s equipment inventory, providing property tags, disposing of unused/replaced equipment, and organizing the yearly inventory. Perform Other duties as required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of terminology. Principles and techniques used in analysis and testing. Knowledge of procedures, techniques and equipment used in lab testing and analysis. Skill in the use of lab equipment. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work independently. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Qualifications: Minimum - Be eligible for a State of Florida Public Health Licensure. Bachelor Degree. Preferred – PhD Degree, hold a State of FL Public Health License, 3 years of clinical laboratory experience, and 1 year of supervisory experience.
