JOB SUMMARY The Medical Laboratory Technician performs clinical laboratory testing on blood, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Level of knowledge normally acquired through the completion of an associates degree from accredited MLT program. ASCP certification or eligibility. The analytical ability to evaluate potential erroneous laboratory results. The interpersonal skills necessary to assist co-workers when not busy, answer inquiries by telephone for laboratory results, and provide laboratory results by telephone. Laboratory computer skills necessary to enter and release laboratory results as well as document telephone calls and enter appropriate result comments. JOB DUTIES (* denotes “essential function” ) Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers. * Performs patient specimen testing in an accurate and timely manner according to hospital and laboratory protocol.* Performs all daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of all analyzers.* Runs and documents control samples according to procedure.* Notifies appropriate medical staff or customer service staff of panic values or questionable results in a timely manner.* Prepares reagents and controls properly.* Maintains work area in a neat and organized manner.* Notifies supervisor or “Charge Tech” or specimen, analyzer, or reagent problems when appropriate.* Remains informed of developments in area of expertise by attending seminars and workshops, reading pertinent literature, and so forth. Performs other duties as assigned.
