Job Summary: Looking for a position that offers fulfilling and rewarding work, this position as Donor Recovery Advocate is that position. You make it possible for people who are suffering with certain illnesses to have an opportunity to improve life because of our recovery process. This position recovers the following tissues: Umbilical Cord, Cord Blood, and Placenta. Essential Job Functions: Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with the current standard operating procedures (SOP), regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), American Association of Blood Bank (AABB), and other applicable Federal, State and Local laws. Ensures timely transport of donated Cord and Cord Blood to the processing facility and/or research facility along with complete and correct corresponding documents. Conducts self in a professional manner during all interactions with physicians; hospital staff; and families. Serves as a representative of Life Line Stem Cell (LLSC). Performs quality controls practices as defined by SOP's of designated processors and LLSC. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Attend departmental and staff meetings and complete required training and readings to ensure compliance. Ability to interview expectant mothers and complete consent and maternal medical social history forms according to processor requirements, complete routine reports and correspondence. All Cord Blood technicians are required to report to work two hours before a scheduled C-section. The two hour period for early arrival is approved, which eliminates the need to get approval from a supervisor when your hospital has an early morning C-section scheduled. All job-related information is handled in strict confidence Ability to lift up to 20 pounds independently (equipment, shipping boxes) and larger weight with assistance. Long period (up to 8 hours) of time standing with minimal or no interruptions Recover Umbilical Cord Blood, Umbilical Cord, and Placenta utilizing aseptic technique to appropriately recover donated Umbilical Blood/Cord Blood, and Placenta for research and transplant. Obtain informed consent and complete medical/social history from the mother/father per standard operating procedures. Assist in the development of hospital relations under the direction of the Cord Blood program director. Non-Essential Job Functions: Perform all duties as requested and assigned The ability to work irregular hours. Must be available for extensive on-call hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Ability to drive and travel to hospitals within the LLSC service area. Use potentially sharp instruments (needles and scalpels). Ability to work effectively with a variety of professional medical staff including hospitals and birthing centers.
