Job description As a client-facing professional, the Medical Assistant functions as the primary clinical support to providers and patients who are seen, served, and treated by the San Diego Cardiac Center (SDCC). The Medical Assistant is responsible for a myriad of clinical duties and responsibilities as outlined below. On occasion, the Medical Assistant may also be asked to perform non-clinical responsibilities to ensure continuity of operations throughout SDCC. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary job functions required of our Medical Assistants includes the following, but not limited to: Greets patients professionally; properly rooms patients for Provider's visit in a timely manner; scanning all documents provided. Updates or populates the patient's chart with relevant medical data in both EHR systems (Allscripts and Epic) within the rooming tab. Obtain vitals, enter, and start office note, following protocol for each doctor, being aware of individual preferences; have available X-Rays, labs, CT's, MRI's, reports, and dictation for Providers. Updates patient status to ready to be seen by Provider. Assist Providers with scheduling any hospital procedures. After the visit, print the After Visit Summary (AVS) and direct the patient to checkout. Manage the delegated clinical "In Basket" folder; INR's; document into EHR system(s); call patients in a timely manner. All messages are required to be responded to and completed in 24-48 hours. Primarily responsible for ETT's and Monitors, except for instances they are scheduled, including all enrollment forms online. Maintain list of monitors enrolled daily; as well as obtaining results in a timely manner. Collect signed EKGs at the end of each clinic day and batch EKG's individually to Onbase for viewing. Field triage calls from patients regarding medication refills; facilitate medication requests; communicate with Providers regarding the patient's status; document in EHR system(s) any pertinent patient communication; bring any relevant data to the Provider's attention that will assist in the decision-making process; close the loop with the patient and schedule any follow-up appointments, as necessary. Return voicemail messages in a timely manner; maintain boxes of records are up to date; send out to Iron Mountain, as needed. Track medical supply inventory on a weekly basis, including Lexi's, and communicate to the Manager to replenish the necessary inventory. Possess working knowledge of "opening and closing" the office, which includes transferring of the phones to the answering service (Ability), ensuring the patient lobby is organized/disinfected, on an as-needed basis. Serve as back up for Front Office as needed for meal breaks; including but not limited to, scheduling appointments, and answering the phones. Responsible for daily cleaning and maintenance of instruments and equipment; confirm patient rooms and work areas are clean/sterilized. Be a collaborator : Identify how you might assist fellow MA's or Front Office staff during daily operations to ensure a smooth flow of clinic hours. Always represent SDCC and its staff and Providers in a professional, courteous, and respectful manager on or off property Perform other duties as assigned or requested. CORE COMPETENCIES AND EXPECTATIONS: A successful Medical Assistant will possess the necessary core competencies and meet the general expectations, such as: Successful completion/graduation from a recognized Medical Assistant educational training course or have acquired qualifying skills, as evaluated by SDCC, through medical/clinical work experience. Effective communication skills to converse clearly over the telephone and in person. Exceptional organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities while remaining professional and calm. Diligence to maintain a high-volume level of accuracy; ability to work independently and perform functions with minimal supervision; be self-directed; flexible; and prioritize. Technological skills, such as using word processing and spreadsheet programs to track data. Interpersonal skills to interact positively with many diverse individuals. Be punctual and maintain a cheerful outlook and a professional appearance. Excellent customer service skills and working knowledge of general office duties. Works well in an environment with firm deadlines; results oriented; ability to work independently and as part of a team. Consistently demonstrate and promote the values of respect, honesty, and dignity for all patients and SDCC team members and be committed to the constant pursuit of excellence and teamwork. Maintenance of current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for HealthCare Workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification for HealthCare workers. EKG recognition and interpretation class and certification. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Physical demands: Coordination, manual, and physical dexterity sufficient to properly and adequately use various items of medical equipment and office equipment as required of the position or directed by the Clinical Manager.
