Mechanical Engineer

Description:
Provide mechanical engineering design and product support functions for new and existing products. Principle Accountabilities Design - Detailed design and layout of machines/mechanisms, assemblies, and components. Prototyping - Management of prototype parts fabrication, building, and testing. Testing - Design test apparatus and equipment. Develop procedures for testing products, oversee and perform testing as required, write test reports. Troubleshooting - Investigate equipment failures and errors to diagnose faulty operation. Make recommendations for corrective actions. Document Management - Produce and manage engineering documentation, e.g. Engineering Change Orders, control drawings, bills of material, illustrated parts drawings, CAD models etc. Communications - Technical communications with overseas and domestic suppliers. Purchasing Support - Provide technical support and assist in the development and management of vendors and outsourcing solutions. Project planning - Determine schedules and conduct periodic product meetings (design reviews). Essential Skills and Experience Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent is required with at least 3-5 years experience in a product development, machine design, or manufacturing environment Dependable and motivated self-starter that can work independently, as well as with teams Strong problem solver with organizational and analytical skills Strong attention to detail Adaptive to changing requirements and deadlines Experienced with machine and mechanism design Knowledgeable of electronic and electromechanical principals Strong written and oral communication skills plus well-developed interpersonal skills. Proficient with Solidworks CAD drafting Skilled in the use of PC applications, including Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Proficient in the use of basic tools and testing equipment (mechanical and electrical) Familiar with the following manufacturing technologies: Machining, Forming, Welding, Heat Treatment, Injection molding, Riveted assemblies, and Packaging Experience with automation electronics and embedded systems a plus Ability to operate basic machine shop equipment, lathe, drill press, milling machine, etc. a plus Requisites Occasional overseas travel to factories for production oversight and approval Travel requirements include overnight travel, both by car and by air, that may be a couple 3-5 day trips a year. Position will require valid state driver's license and have a good driving record. Flexibility to work extended hours during work week and have open availability to work weekends and holidays on an as-needed basis. Essential Physical Functions Must have the ability to lift 60 lbs. carrying and lifting tools and parts weighing up to 20 lbs.
