Overall Objectives of Position The Operations Manager is responsible for hiring the inaugural staff, crafting workflows, and operating a state of the art new Meat Processing Plant slated to open in December of 2024. Oversight will include all plant operations: slaughter, hides, wastewater, fabrication, grinding, smoke house, shipping and receiving. This is a start-up operation and the incumbent will play a significant role in the successful building and operating of this facility to include creating policy, directly managing the staffing and performance evaluation of team members, proactively reporting the measurements of success, and collaborating with the Plant leadership team to ensure the successful launch and operation. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Operations Manager is expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable program.The Operations Manager is expected to live the Purpose and Values of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and will go beyond the call of duty. Primary Responsibilities of the Operations Manager Responsible and accountable for the coordination and direction of all plant activity toward the achievement of maximum efficiency of operations with the assurance of producing and shipping quality products. Responsible for performance in meeting the company’s operational goals relating to food safety, employee safety, product quality, delivery, cost, and turnover. Develops and maintains a positive and productive relationship with leadership team. Takes full and complete ownership for staffing, performance management, payroll management, training and career development and engagement of team members. Ensures plant staff is kept informed of PCI strategies and initiatives in a timely manner and ensures the needs of assigned staff are met. Coordinates plant goals and objectives with procurement, sales, distribution, maintenance, quality control, and human resources. Obtains optimum production, utilization of manpower and equipment, and fulfillment of customer orders. Provides resources and guidance to all employees as it relates to the plant operation. Manages inventory and product loss control processes, ensuring quality of product is consistent with desired design and company image and that quality standards are met. Works closely with the scheduling team to maximize overall performance and customer service, maintains a “customer obsessed” mentality towards the end users and employees. Builds a high achieving production team capable of sustaining the company’s profitability, goals, and vision. Operates in compliance with GMPs, SOPs and USDA standards. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate person. Day-to-day Responsibilities Supervises the applicable staff including but not limited to, general supervision, performance evaluations, leave approvals, and timesheets. Education/License/Certification and Experience Requirements Must have one (1) of the following: a. Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or related field with six (6) years of recent and progressively responsible plant employment experience in a related industry, or b. Eight (8) years of recent and progressively responsible plant employment experience in a related industry. Minimum of three (3) year of employment experience working with budgets, including but not limited to: required reports, budget modifications, etc. required. Minimum of four (4) years’ supervisory experience in monitoring and coordinating the activities of subordinates. Skills Required Knowledge of business and management principles, including costing and budgeting. Strong knowledge of FDA, USDA, GMP, OSHA and HACCP regulations and principles Must have a working knowledge with air knives, straight knives use to slaughter and de-hide a beef steer, remove viscera, use a split saw with no cross contamination. Working knowledge on how to de-bone the entire carcass cutting and trimming sub-primal cuts based on beef industry specifications. Must be able to generate spreadsheets, capture, track and trend the relevant metrics and develop templates for use by plant management and corporate FSQA sales and operations. Must be able to work independently yet interact with many different facets within the organization and be the plant liaison to USDA. Analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Must be able to teach and train new employees on how to use a knife, sharpen them, perform all steps on harvest and processing floor. Skilled in the operation of standard office machinery, including a calculator copier, facsimile, and other similar equipment. Ability to work in a high-performance, fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Must be able to work in a team environment and independently. Ability to bend, lift, and stand for periods of time. HACCP certified. Proven strong interpersonal skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to influence employees across all levels of the organization. Excellent leadership qualities, including effective communication with line employees on the plant floor. Must be people oriented and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds. Additional Requirements Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed. Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check. Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events. Must possess a valid state driver’s license and an insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines. Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully. Every applicant must complete an application provided by Human Resources.
