Job Purpose: The Materials Manager is responsible for the management of implants, supplies, and equipment for the Surgery Center. Primary Duties and Responsibilities : Orders and maintains the inventory needed to perform each case that is scheduled Communicates and coordinates with vendors for supplies, implants, and loaners needed for Responsible for maintaining equipment and coordinating repairs Works with the Finance Dept. and Central Business Office billing to assure accurate billing for supplies and implants used with each patient Responsible for offering solutions for cost effectiveness without impacting our ability to deliver quality patient care Responsible for product price negotiations for supplies and implants Provides the Verification of Benefits Dept. with pricing information as needed for profitability analysis Maintains a clean work area Responsible for performing and leading the quarterly physical inventory counts Performs random spot checks/cycle counts as necessary to confirm accurate inventory information Purchases supplies within approved spending limit Maintain yearly required training including but not limited to: Infection Control/OSHA TB Testing Fire Safety All codes Location of SDS BLS certification Competencies: Decision Making: Collects and reviews relevant data before acting balancing risk and rewards of options, encourages input from other subject matter experts, able to adjust opinions and recommendations based on new information, and objectively evaluates decisions after they have been made. Comprehension: Understands and applies detailed instructions and factual information in oral, written and /or diagram form. Technical Expertise: Applies knowledge of professional medical practice, regulations, and organizational policy to provide quality, patient focused care within scope of role, build relationships with care team, patient and families, and maintain a safe working environment Planning and Organizing: Manages a high volume of tasks at one time, prioritizing workload while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Adaptability: Maintains composure in a fast-paced environment, managing changing priorities and adjusting response appropriately to achieve goals; responds to change with a positive attitude and willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives. Initiative/Independence: Works independently with little needed direction taking responsibility for own time and effectiveness. Proactively recognizes opportunities to contribute, recommends and implements process improvements Problem Solving: Analyzes data to understand root cause and solves problems with multiple variables, both predictable and unpredictable. Numerical Skills: Utilizes intermediate mathematical abilities including basic math computations, percentages, ratios, averages and practical application of algebraic math. Education and Experience Requirements: One-year certificate from college or technical school A minimum of 2 years of experience performing similar tasks Previous experience as a surgical tech or a surgical assistant, surgical nurse, or sterile processing tech BLS certification within 30 days of hire Ability to legally operate motor vehicle Environmental/Working Conditions: Work location is supply room, sterile supply room and dirty/clean utility room. Exposure to biohazard materials such as blood, body fluids, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to the operating room environment. Requires use of own personal vehicle for delivery of surgical specimens and occasional business errands. Physical/Mental Demands: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds Possess full range of motion in shoulders and arms, including reaching above or below the shoulder. Finger dexterity, the ability to twist hands/wrists repetitively Excellent vision, hearing, smell, and balance Ability to operate power tools and medical equipment when needed This description is intended to provide only basic guidelines for meeting job requirements.
