GENERAL FUNCTION: The Youth Specialty Program Instructor (Martial Arts/Karate) will be available during their scheduled program/class. This person is an advocate for YMCA Core Values and assists in carrying out the YMCA/JCC of Greater Toledo's Mission Statement. This individual will ensure a great environment and act as a liaison between parents, students and the Program Director. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge about specialty area and ability to lead others. Strong communication and teamwork skills. At least 18 years old. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develop and implement lesson plans for the specialty program/class, providing for an enriching and fun environment. Be ready to work at scheduled times. Supervise the students to ensure all rules are being followed. Set up any necessary equipment needed for the program/class. Act as a liaison between parents, students and the Program Director. Responsible for the inventory and maintenance of program equipment/supplies. Will notify the Program Director when it is necessary to order additional supplies. Assist in volunteer recruitment. Start and end programs/classes on time. Help distribute necessary fliers as it pertains to the YMCA. Assist the Program Director in matters as decided. Understand and demonstrate the YMCA/JCC philosophy and core values. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to plan, lead and participate in program activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
