Summary: This position is primarily responsible for guiding the content and production of Hart Energy's flagship publication, Oil and Gas Investor Magazine, as well as print supplements each month. While following the direction of the magazines Editor-in-Chief, this role leads the editing, fact-checking, style and content layout, and takes ownership of planning and producing monthly supplements and special projects. The Managing Editor is expected to write stories and produce content as needed, while working with Hart Energy's editors, reporters, freelancers and photographers on planning, reporting, writing and editing news stories, features, infographics, photos and much more. This role requires a skilled editor with experience in planning and mapping out publications. Long-term strategizing and collaboration are key components of the job. The Managing Editor also helps news and information flow seamlessly between the website, newsletters and print publications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Mange the content quality and layout of Oil and Gas Investor Magazine while working closely with the magazine's Editor-in-Chief and Art Director to ensure the best possible product. Take ownership of the planning and production of a myriad of print supplements and special issues, including influential Women in Energy, Forty Under 40 in Energy, and Who's Who in E&P A&D, and more. Help plan and coordinate events and award ceremonies associated with supplements and special projects. Develop annual Editorial Calendar and monthly Editorial Tracking Calendar for coordination and organization purposes. Produce the Oil and Gas Investor This Week newsletter for subscribers. Writes and provides additional reporting to news stories and features as needed. Help conduct weekly news meetings with the Editorial Department for the planning and scheduling of print publications. Work with advertising department on the layout and placement of print ads. Ensure Hart Energy is leading global energy coverage, from oil and gas production to renewable energy. Develop relationships and build a personal network of industry professionals. Lead Hart Energy's mapping and analytics software at RexTag for digital mapping and content to supplement online news. Assist with conference planning speaker procurement and onsite moderating and coverage for company events as requested by Editorial Director. Travel to events outside of Hart Energy office, including field assignments and conferences as specified by senior staff. Attend professional and social events relevant to the publications' content and audience. Working Conditions: Frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers, including but not limited to keyboard usage, etc. Regularly required to lift up to 5 pounds, frequently lift up to 10 pounds, occasionally required to lift up to 15 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the environment is moderate. Qualifications Preferred minimum of five years of journalism and editing experience Preferred experience in print publications and online news. Collaboration, teamwork and advanced planning are critical to putting together the industry-leading multimedia hub on HartEnergy.com Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines and handle work-related stress. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may sometimes include weekends and holidays. Able to establish and maintain a professional atmosphere for employees, clients and customers. Knowledge of the energy sector is a plus. Education: Bachelor Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in English, journalism, or related field and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
