The Manager, Government Funding is an integral member of the External Relations team and responsible for securing and managing all aspects of government funding with a goal of maintaining and expanding public funding for the New England Aquarium (NEAq). In partnership with principal investigators (PIs) and other staff, the Manager, Government Funding will manage NEAq's government funding efforts - including grants, partnerships, contracts, and appropriations - throughout the funding lifecycle (pre-award to post-award) including research, proposal development, drafting, submission, contracting, and reporting. In addition, the Manager, Government Funding will manage a portfolio of government grant-makers to ensure a robust pipeline of funding support. New England Aquarium has implemented comprehensive safety protocols for employees and visitors to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. As a member of our team, you will be provided with the training and resources needed to ensure a safe and rewarding experience. In addition, the Aquarium requires all staff to be vaccinated with one booster shot (when eligible) against COVID-19 unless a reasonable medical or religious accommodation is requested and approved. This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with the option for a hybrid schedule, working some days on-site and up to three days remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, RI, NH, ME, NY and VT. Candidates must be flexible to work occasional after-hours events. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Lead prospect research to identify and track local, state, and federal government funding opportunities; produce and distribute forecasts of opportunities and work with PIs to ensure a robust funding pipeline. Maintain a working knowledge of priority areas within the Aquarium for funding support. Work with PIs and AVP, Public Policy and Advocacy to evaluate government funding opportunities, make recommendations on what projects may be an institutional match, and formulate proposal strategies. Collaborate with PIs and Finance Department to set, monitor, and meet timelines for government funding proposal development. Coordinate with PIs and Finance Department to ensure that government grant budgets, budget justifications, and financial reports meet grantee requirements and are competitive for funding. Lead development of high-quality proposal narratives, edit proposal content provided by PIs, and draft sections of proposals, abstracts, cover sheets, close-out reports, and other supporting documents. Independently manage time-sensitive projects, with responsibility for on-time and complete submission of funding proposals, application materials, and reports via grants.gov and other submission channels. Review and proactively communicate all new grant and contract award documents and any subsequent modifications for compliance and special award conditions. Evaluate and assess the impact and effectiveness of grants, and make recommendations for future funding opportunities. Develop and maintain strong relationships with government funding agencies, personnel, and other stakeholders to stay informed about funding opportunities, trends, and changes in government regulations, policies, and procedures related to grants and funding Manage NEAq accounts in SAM, IMLS, and other platforms and ensure proper access is maintained. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of city, state, and federal legislative and administrative processes around grants, appropriations, and other funding opportunities. Represent NEAq at public events that support the institution and its government funding goals. Perform other related duties to support NEAq goals. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications Three to five years of government funding application and management experience. Exceptional written communications and proofreading skills with demonstrated experience developing, writing and editing proposals and supporting documents for government agencies. Project management experience required. Grant, contract, and RFP analysis. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with federal, state, and local government funding agencies. Research and prospecting skills, including knowledge of resources for identifying new funding opportunities and submission of applications. Outstanding organizational and time management skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to guide processes that involve multiple stakeholders. Familiarity with budgets and ability to create spreadsheets. Proficiency with Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Raiser's Edge (or other CRM databases). Commitment to the Aquarium's mission, vision, and values.
