The communities that Alaska Village Electric Cooperative serves receive power via small, isolated grids that utilize diesel generation and renewable sources. AVEC serves the rural Alaska communities with 11,513 meters, 515 miles of distribution line.The Maintenance Technician position will be a part of the Operations team at AVEC. If you are self-motivated, responsible, and driven, this position allows you freedom in setting your hours and pace while out in the field. While traveling with AVEC, you will get to enjoy world class fishing and hunting during the hours that you aren't working and will get to see parts of Alaska that most Alaskans don't even get to see.As a Maintenance Technician you will organize, assist, direct and perform construction work on-site required to serve member villages with electrical energy through a diesel generation and distribution system. You will perform major overhauls and repairs, replacement of parts, assemblies and preventative maintenance, and fabricating or improvising temporary replacements. Maintenance Technicians instruct Power Plant Operators during the operations and maintenance period in use of equipment, methods and safe practices involved in construction, correct operational problems and perform maintenance and repair on the distribution system and power plants. As part of the traveling field staff, you are the ones that our Members see and you will be expected to maintain good relations with the member-owners and village councils and build their understanding and confidence in AVEC's value, mission and goals.The ideal candidate will be reliable, dependable, knowledgeable, self-motivated, resourceful and will like to travel and be adventurous enough to take on rural Alaska.Benefits and PayHourly rate based on experience 1,000 Hour/Seasonal Hire (with possibility of full time) - Wage Range starting at $21.02 Maintenance Technician I - Wage Range starting at $27.24 Maintenance Technician II - Wage Range starting at $33.02 Will work Overtime Per diem while in the field The Cooperative offers an excellent benefit package to include an employer-paid pension plan, 401K with an employer match, generous leave starting at 14 hours per month, two different health insurance plans, vision, dental and life insurance.
