Department: Facility Services Title: Maintenance Mechanic Second Shift Work Location: Daemen University Campus and Off-Site Properties Title of Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Director of Facilities-Buildings & Grounds Title of Positions Reporting to This Position: Seasonal Help Job Status: Full Time Year Round Job Class: Hourly Staff - 40 hours per week Shift: 3:00PM-11:30PM Job Summary: Under supervision, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 performs all general building maintenance repairs. Has knowledge in basic electrical, plumbing and heating adequate to make minor improvements and replacements. Preferred to have additional basic knowledge in carpentry, masonry, and vehicle maintenance. Tasks/Duties Performed: The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Maintain and replace sinks, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountains Perform repairs to furniture Repair and/or replace/install new ceilings and flooring Repair and installation of lighting fixtures, light switches, receptacles, and smoke detectors Perform various patching, painting, and staining tasks Minor drywall repairs Adjust and make repairs to door hardware including closures and exit devices Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment to include lubrication of pumps and motors, change filters and belts Make adjustments, minor repairs and preventative maintenance to boilers and ventilation systems Perform minor masonry repairs and concrete work Moving furniture, hanging pictures, banners, and other signage Assembling, repairing chairs, desks, shelving units, etc. Maintain university vehicles and equipment Handle/assist with university event set ups and breakdowns Inspect buildings, facilities, and equipment to ascertain required repairs and make recommendations to supervisor Basic computer skills to operate software for automation system - view only Considered essential personnel - which means that this position may be needed at times when the University is closed or in an emergency as determined by supervisor Any other duties which may be assigned by the Assistant Directors or Director Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED A minimum of 5 years of experience in building maintenance in a similar situation Valid New York State driver's license that satisfies both the University and insurance company underwriting rules and regulations for driving a university owned motor vehicle Ability to drive a university vehicle for the purpose of performing university business on a regular basis Position is considered essential personnel and is required to work overtime and weekend as required by inclement weather or scheduled campus event as directed by supervision Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of building maintenance General knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and heating repairs General knowledge of construction principles. Good mechanical abilities Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions, with or without reasonable accommodations Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to effectively as an individual or within a team as well as with diverse groups Ability to work overtime to respond to emergencies Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment, subject to frequently changing priorities Problem solving skills and sound judgment in a technical environment Basic computer skills necessary to use work order system Ability to work nights, weekends, and evenings as necessary Adhere to safety procedures in the performance of job and be conscious of security issues involved in daily routine Ability to perform all above essential job functions for a minimum of an eight-hour shift, with one-half hour unpaid meal break, without significant risk of serious injury Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately, with minimal direct supervision, within two weeks after the employee begins work Attention to detail and a positive attitude Physical Requirements: The functions of the Maintenance Mechanic 1 position are usually performed standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, heavy lifting (maximum of 50lbs), climbing ladders, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving carpentry, plumbing and electrical work involve extensive wrist and hand movement. The Maintenance Mechanic 1 person must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds and staging; and be able to work in crawl spaces. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others. Status: Position is full time, 40 hours per week, non-exempt staff and may require additional hours during peak periods or inclement weather. Benefits are available the first of the month following the full-time employee's date of hire and include health, dental, vision insurance, and fully paid life insurance. In addition, we offer fully paid long term disability insurance after 3 months of employment. Eligibility for the 403b retirement plan is available to full-time employees upon hire and an 8% employer match after one year of service. Excellent time off benefits for holidays, vacation and personal time is included. Tuition waiver benefits are also available for full-time employees and their qualified dependents.
