MACHINE MECHANIC - Part Time

SUMMARY: The Machine Mechanic repairs and maintains machines used in production. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunction. Dismantles machines and equipment to gain access to problem areas. Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems. Removes and replaces worn or defective parts. Realigns and adjusts components such as timing gears, hooks, and all components requiring timing. Replaces or repairs fittings and lines. Starts machine and checks for proper operation. Operates tools such as lathe, milling machine, cutting tools, hand tools, and grinders. Modified operation of machines to do a different operation (as per supervisor instructions). Assists Plant Manager when needed. Reports problem areas not directly associated to the job. Initiates purchase order requisition for parts and machines. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years related work experience preferred but not required Associates degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school preferred but not required Knowledge of Basic Electricity 110 and 220 volt Knowledge of compressed air and pneumatics LANGUAGE SKILLS: Basic skills required which include verbal and written communication skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals and ability to measure and determine proper location of accessories to the bags. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. REASONING ABILITY; Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written and oral form. OTHER ABILITIES/SKILLS: Ability to function independently and as part of a team Planning and organizational skills. Basic computer skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Good depth perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships) Must be able to hear and speak. Must have excellent manual dexterity. Must be able to lift machines - up to 50 lbs. Must be able to bend and sit for extended periods of time. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Must be able to maneuver around a large factory (one level) and tolerate a moderate noise level. Mild exposure to airborne particles and fumes. Work near moving mechanical parts.
