The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health Lynn R. Goldman Endowed Professorship in Environmental and Community Health The Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University is seeking applicants for the Lynn R. Goldman Endowed Professorship in Environmental and Community Health. We invite applicants who are tenure eligible at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor for a full-time, tenured faculty position, starting as early as September 1, 2024. We seek a world class public health scholar whose work spans environmental justice and health equity, with a focus on social and environmental determinants of health and community mobilization and advocacy to advance public health action to address challenges in overburdened and/or underrepresented communities. Such health determinants may include, but are not limited to, structural racism and/or sexism, economic deprivation, climate vulnerability (including heat, extreme weather, water-borne disease, food security and safety), toxic sites, intergenerational trauma, substandard housing, community violence and food deserts. Particular methodological expertise could include: geospatial analysis, participatory mapping, measurement and interpretation of biomarkers of adverse environmental and/or social impacts, and/or advanced modeling and simulation. Interdisciplinary research approaches are welcome. The University, School and Department have a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff. The Milken Institute School of Public Health has a diverse faculty and a rapidly growing research portfolio. As the only school of public health in the nations capital, faculty and students have a unique opportunity to work closely with government agencies as well as the numerous non-governmental and international organizations that are headquartered in DC. The School of Public Health is located in a LEED Platinum building in the heart of the nations capital. It has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities in the LEED Gold certified Science and Engineering Hall and world class high-performance computing infrastructure. GW is home to a thriving ecosystem of centers and institutes in areas related to environmental health, including the Climate and Health Institute, Antibiotic Resistance Action Center, Sustainable GW, Food and Health Policy Institute, Global Food Institute, and the Sumner M. Redstone Global Center for Prevention and Wellness. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and the Department of Prevention and Community Health.Responsibilities for the position include an active role in environmental health research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will bring or develop an externally funded research portfolio and devote 50% effort to this research and 50% to teaching, service, and mentoring students. Qualifications : Applicants must be tenure-eligible at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and have demonstrated success in obtaining extramural research funding, publishing in the peer-reviewed literature, teaching and mentoring students, and engaging diverse community voices and partnerships in public health research and/or practice.
