Lower School Lead Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

Friends Select School is seeking a lead pre-kindergarten teacher, who is passionate about using the City and its wealth of resources to enhance the learning of their students. The ideal candidate is a strong collaborator who can join us in our continual refinement of the art of teaching and partner with us to further enact our mission as a Quaker school. This position will begin in late August 2024. Duties and Responsibilities: Teach all core subjects and early academic skills in the context of a play and project-based curriculum Supporting and facilitating students' social-emotional development Utilize the city to enhance student learning Collaborating with grade-level colleagues, specialists, and the rest of the lower school faculty Communicate with parents including, but not limited to, two progress reports and two parent conferences Actively participate in after-school meetings as needed for faculty meetings, curriculum development, and committee work, approximately 2 times per week Support the wider school community by attending various school events Carry out various 'non-instructional' duties, such as supervising lunch, recess, and dismissal Serve on the pre-kindergarten admission team, which involves participation in Saturday admission playdays Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required Graduate degree in education or a related field preferred At least 3 years (preferably more) of teaching experience at the pre-k or kindergarten level Strong pedagogical skills with a child-centered, play and project-based program Excellent verbal and written communication skills A strong understanding of child development A passion for teaching young children A flexible, creative, and enthusiastic approach to teaching and collaborating Support Quaker school values, a commitment to social justice and anti-racism Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and list of three professional references to Dave Younkin, Director of the Lower School via the school's website at: https://www.friends-select.org/about/employment-opportunities References will not be contacted unless the candidate is a finalist for the position.
