LOWER SCHOOL DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SUPPORT This is a full time position within the Lower School reporting to the Head of Lower School. Major Responsibilities: Oversee student support in the Lower School in order to promote the academic success, and social and emotional well-being of Lower School students. Provide individualized social and emotional support to students and groups of students as needed. Partner with families to support students and families in need of academic, social, and emotional support. Supervise Lower School student support teachers, including the math and reading specialists. Lead grade level student support meetings with the Head of Lower School and work with teachers to differentiate and meet individual student needs. Serve as a member of the Lower School administration including: supporting colleagues, students and families; participating in policy discussions and decisions; assisting in the evaluation of individual faculty members and hiring of new colleagues; supporting Lower School events; and supporting school wide initiatives.. Serve on the Lower School Admissions Committee and support the admissions process including managing assessment of prospective students and overseeing group assessments. Work with families through the psycho-educational evaluation process including the recommendation, interpretation, dissemination, implementation, and ongoing assessment of evaluations. Serve as liaison to the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit including for counseling, reading/math, and speech/language teachers. Oversee all referrals and correspondence with outside tutors, therapists, psychologists and other institutions/schools related to Shipley LS students. Oversee class placement in partnership with Head of Lower School Support the SEED program and integration of Positive Education. Support Lower School/All School events and parent programs related to student support. Read Lower School fall and spring progress reports. Oversee and maintain confidential student support records. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and be part of an administrative team Demonstrate maturity, collegiality, flexibility, and commitment to equity and professional growth Work collaboratively, build relationships, and make connections with children, families, and colleagues Have earned a Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling or Psychology Have a minimum two years teaching experience and/or two years of direct work in related field Demonstrate strong knowledge of child development and current research-based theories and practices Have knowledge and/or training in cultural competency as it relates to student support Possess excellent speaking writing, and organizational skills The ideal candidate will... Possess an advanced degree in an area relevant to the position Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and be able to provide training in a variety of topics Have experience assuming leadership roles beyond the classroom Demonstrate a commitment to the integration of cultural competency and application of best practices of DEI in student support.
