Location: Covington Qualifications: Open to volunteers ages 18 and above Volunteer Opportunity Description: Does local history and genealogy fascinate you? We need volunteers to assist with the digitization (scanning) and indexing of items in the archival collections. Digitizing and indexing historical documents and photos allow items to be made freely available online to patrons and researchers while protecting the original documents.The Local History department has a variety of scanners in use for digitizing materials. We train everyone on the machines, and there is always a staff member available if questions arise. Indexing is usually done with Excel and again, we will train volunteers to enter and save relevant data. Skills needed for this Volunteer Opportunity: Basic computer skillsAbility to follow instructionsAttention to detail Days and Hours needed: Any amount of time that you can volunteer is appreciated. We are flexible and will find a schedule that works for you. Volunteer time would be done during the department's open hours - which are currently, Mon-Wed 9-5, Thu 9-9, Fri 9-5, Sat 10-5, and Sun 1-5.Indexing may be done remotely. Job Posted by ApplicantPro
