Position Summary Concordia University invites applicants for the position of part-time (up to 19.5 hours per week) Library General Services Assistant. The Library General Services Assistant performs a variety of detailed, moderately complex support duties under general supervision, as well as providing an adult library staff presence on weekends. The Library General Services Assistant has the primary goal of meeting the information needs of CUW students as they participate in the University's programs of study in pursuit of Christian education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The library diligently works in a collaborative manner to select, acquire, and make available materials and resources consistent with fulfilling the University's mission of providing excellence in Christian education. This position will report to the Director of Library and Information Services and Vice Provost of Academic Affairs at the Mequon, WI campus. Job Duties and Responsibilities Routine para-professional library responsibilities as needed or assigned Work involved is of a responsible, technical nature, requiring some knowledge of library systems, procedures and the use of online information systems / platforms Ongoing service to / support of both in-person and remote library users: Provide prompt and courteous service to patrons in-person, over the phone, and by email or other electronic communication options Field and respond to inquiries General reference assistance Assist professional librarians as needed, examples of which may include, but are not limited to: Perform technical and procedural duties in the cataloging, circulation, acquisition and/or reference areas of the library Project-based work such as: copy cataloging / technical support, processing or mending - repairs / ongoing or special projects relative to collection maintenance, digitization, scanning, etc Work collaboratively with library staff to support operations and further the library's mission of meeting the information needs of Concordia students as they participate in the university's programs of study in pursuit of Christian education Serve as the weekend staff member on-duty: staff point person providing general oversight of weekend student workers; and; general reference / public service supporting library users Any supervisory duties are defined by the Director Other duties as assigned Education and Experience High School Diploma; Bachelor's Degree preferred Trained / experience in procedures, duties, and, written / oral communication skills befitting a professional work environment Training in MS Office and other applicable software applications is highly desired Experience in a library setting is useful with 'academic' being a plus Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Fulfillment of the purposes of this position necessitates a variety of trained capabilities in the following areas: Proficient with computer technology, software, applications, automated library systems, and other such tools or platforms relevant to the operations of a modern, automated library environment Knowledge of library classification, subject headings and authority practices Knowledge and skill in using Library OPAC operations and protocols is helpful Familiarity with basic library policies, procedures, equipment and communication skills Familiarity with ExLibris' Alma/Primo integrated library services platform is a plus.
