Job Application: Open until filled; first review on April 13, 2023 Salary Range: $48,604 - $68,045 This is a professional librarian position with supervisory duties over assigned library personnel . The successful candidate will perform a variety of library duties, which include supervising part-time employees, overseeing adult, teen or children's programming, and providing circulation and reference service to children, teens, and adults. This person will play a role in helping plan for the future of the library, as well as identifying current issues and will be assigned specialized projects both individually and in a team setting. Shifts will include nights and/or weekends. The ideal candidate will be able to accomplish all functions and duties listed below, though actual duties may vary. FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES Selects, supervises, trains, evaluates, supports, and manages part-time staff. Aids staff in finding time-off coverage for sick-leave and vacations, as needed. Serves as a point of contact for circulation desk staff issues/questions. May oversee and conduct the library's adult and teen programs. Oversees collection development of assigned section with a set budget. Provides excellent customer service to the community. Identifies and discusses library issues or problems and proposes solutions to the director. Performs circulation and reference duties, as needed. Remains current in library policies and procedures and applies them consistently. Remains current in resources, services and technologies in the library and information field, and takes an active role in helping plan for the future of the library. Assists with support of patrons in use of library technology. Performs assigned duties and projects using specialized knowledge and skills. Attends extra library and training meetings, as assigned. Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited Institution preferred. Four-year degree from an accredited college or university required . Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of library service with progressively responsible experience, including demonstrated leadership skills. Knowledge: Knowledge of management principles and practices. Knowledge and ability to assist patrons with computers, tablets and phones. Skills/Abilities A working knowledge of library principles and practices. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Self-motivated to complete tasks. Ability to establish good staff rapport and work with staff in a positive and constructive manner. Ability to work comfortably with the public. Ability to learn automated circulation system software and library policies and procedures. Ability to create a courteous first impression of library. Knowledge of management principles and practices. Flexibility to deal with multiple and unexpected tasks and patrons simultaneously. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, perform, and evaluate work assignments with initiative and judgement, independently or with minimal supervision. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to handle conflicts. WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to bend and stoop and reach high places. Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
