HOURLY: $55.84 Job Title : Journeyman Lineman Job Grade : Union Basic Function Responsible to the Line Superintendent for the performance of labor necessary for the construc­tion and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission lines. Required Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent is required plus at least four years of apprenticeship training as a Lineman II or apprentice in the construction and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution lines. If no apprenticeship was served, a minimum of four years' experience related to line construc­tion and maintenance will be required to fill this position. A valid unrestricted class A Colorado Commercial Driver's License and a DOT medical certificate are required and must be maintained. This position is subject to DOT controlled substances and alcohol testing regulations. Job Requirements Duties are semi-routine involving an intensive practical knowledge of duties related to electric power lines. Most duties are performed within the limits of standard practice but there are occasions where a variety of procedures could be used and judgment must be considered to determine what action should be taken. A supervisor may not always be present, thus requiring independent action by the Lineman. Supervision is provided by the Line Superintendent to ensure that all job requirements are accomplished. When working on a crew, general guidance and direction are received from the Working Foreman. When engaged in service work, the employee plans and arranges own work receiving only general direction from the Working Foreman and or the Line Superintendent. Contacts with others are considerable as a Lineman's responsibilities call for contact with consumers and members. These contacts can influence the members' opinion of core. This job requires careful and strict mental and visual attention, especially when working with high voltage lines. Basic aptitudes in numerical ability, numerical reasoning and spatial awareness are also required. The duties and tasks require the ability to routinely lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift a maximum of 100 pounds. Physical demands also include: Walking or hiking for long distances through snowy, muddy, slippery, steep and rocky terrain carrying tools and equipment. Driving or operating all types of equipment for extended periods of time in all types of condi­tions, including very hot, cold, wet and windy weather. Sitting or kneeling for extended periods of time while operating a snowmobile or splicing URD cable. Driving a truck or snowmobile over rough terrain encountering jarring and bouncing conditions. Climbing repeatedly and unassisted onto, into and off of diggers, trenchers, buckets and trucks. Shoveling snow and mud to free equipment. Digging pole and anchor holes in rock with hand tools. Lifting and pounding frost bars, ground rod drivers and tamps. Extending hands and arms over head for extended periods of time while lifting and setting poles with pole pikes. Pulling out and installing meters above shoulder level. Pulling on ropes and hand lines to lift up to 100 pounds and holding the load in position until secured. Climbing poles repeatedly with belt and hooks carrying tools and hardware. Stretching and twisting the body to tie in wire on crossarms, install hardware and operate hoists and other tools while standing on hooks. Working with tools and small parts such as bolts, nuts, washers, and pins while wearing rubber gloves. Using a fully extended extendo with weight on the end when changing fuses and operating switches. Climbing and balancing on ladders. Rolling poles on a framing gin with a cant hook. Changing small and large truck tires unassisted. Bending and stooping to load and unload OCRs, transformers and other equipment and hardware. Working conditions are primarily outside, including possible isolated work areas, call-out at all hours and exposure to adverse weather conditions. Employee may be exposed to toxic materials, including PCB. Employee must reside no more than 30 road miles from their respective district office. Duties and Tasks Connects and installs all standard types of single-phase and three-phase self-contained meter­ing and service drops. Reads kilowatt hour and demand type meters. Completes Lineman portion of various types of service orders. Disconnects meter or service on delinquent accounts in accordance with CORE rules and regulations. Collects money from consumers. Understands and uses CORE location numbers and maps. Determines causes of problems and restores electric service to normal. Installs, removes and repairs street and yard lights. Locates underground electric cable. Reports potential or existing problems or hazards on CORE's electric system to supervisor. Uses two-way radio in accordance with CORE procedure. Patrols transmission and distribution lines. Trims and removes trees. Inspects and notes abnormal conditions of oil-filled equipment. Installs various types of recording meters on distribution and secondary lines. Uses proper procedures and account numbers when filling out daily time sheets and material use tickets. Uses safe working habits and follows CORE's safety rules at all times. Maintains in good condition all personal tools and equipment as well as assigned CORE equipment, tools and vehicles. Drives and operates various types of vehicles and power equipment. Sets and tamps poles and anchors. Frames poles, installs guys, strings and ties in conductor. Works on energized conductors - Rubber gloves 12.5 kV from a bucket truck. Hot sticks up to and including 115 kV from poles. Installs, removes and makes minor repairs and adjustments on oil-filled switchgear, regulators, capacitors and transformers. Constructs various types of three-phase transformer banks. Understands the proper use and completion of small purchase orders. Responds to call-out at all hours, including holidays and weekends in order to restore or main­tain electric service to consumers. Performs other duties as directed.
