Polar Field Services, Inc. is looking to hire a seasonal Journeyman Electrician to complete essential electric work at Toolik Field Station , "America's Arctic University". A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN As a seasonal Journeyman Electrician, you perform essential electrical maintenance and repairs for our remote research station. You get to travel off the beaten path and work at a unique location while enjoying Alaska's natural beauty. In this role, you perform both routine and preventative electrical maintenance as well as complete any necessary repairs or installations. Some of the systems you work on include branch circuits, panel boards, heating systems, and distribution wiring. You also attentively inspect transformers, circuit breakers, and other components for any damage or potential problems. You're comfortable working with renewable energy systems such as inverters, solar photovoltaics, and wind turbines, and you can confidently install and winterize their components. Additionally, you maintain energy storage systems like charge controllers and battery management systems. When necessary, you also complete light construction tasks. As you complete your work, you make sure to maintain thorough documentation every step of the way. You make note of all hours worked, materials used, work plans, and other vital information. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN Current Master or Journeyman Electrician license 4+ years of experience with all phases of electrical work including rough-in, trim-out, conduit installation, power distribution wiring, and electrical equipment and fixture wiring Experience working with generators, breakers, switchgear, and disconnects Ability to work on high voltage transformers and meters High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license and ability to drive snowmobiles or other polar vehicles "NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace" training courses completion would be preferred. Experience with controls as well as commercial or industrial facility construction would be a huge plus. Experience with remote, cold, or polar environments would be a bonus! WORK SCHEDULE FOR A JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN This seasonal position works a varied schedule depending on location, weather, and work requirements. Deployments vary in length and usually occur between April through September . Typically, you can expect to work 50 hours per week, Monday - Saturday .
