Markword 2 Position Overview The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Quincy Veterans’ Home. Under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor, this position will perform a variety of experienced practical nursing functions for physically ill, handicapped, or geriatric patients on an assigned shift and nursing unit. Essential Functions 30% Under direct supervision, performs a variety of beginning level practical nursing functions for physically, mentally ill, or intellectually disabled geriatric patients in an assigned nursing unit and shift 25% Assists residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, shaving, dressing, feeding and elimination needs. 20% Observes, records, and reports to physicians and registered nurses or supervisory nurses the symptoms, reactions, and reactions in resident's condition 10% Assists in maintaining supplies, working, and living areas in good order. 5% Follows and supports the philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of nursing service and the facility 5% Serves as a member of a nursing care and treatment team. 5% Performs other duties as requested or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires Illinois license as a practical nurse. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title. Conditions of Employment Requires ability to pass a background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical. Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance. Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers. Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
