Description:

Nature of Work This highly responsible work installing, maintaining, and repairing complex electronic instrumentation and hydraulic and mechanical equipment in water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, elevated tanks, and related facilities. Daily and weekly job duties depend upon the assignment area and require strict adherence to prescribed safety standards. Work is on a rotating shift basis, including weekends. The employee receives supervision of a general nature from the W/S Maintenance Assistant Superintendent or their designee; and will often be required to work on an independent basis. An employee in this position also works as an on-call employee.An employee in this position is considered an essential employee and may be required to report to work during adverse weather in which the county declares a delay or closure. FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Examples of Duties (The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. A position may require related duties not listed, if necessary, to accomplish the work of the department) Installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs analog and digital instrumentation and control equipment in water and wastewater plants, pumping stations, and related facilities. Tests, maintains, and calibrates electronic and pneumatic instrumentation devices used in the measurement and recording of temperature, flow levels, weight, liquid density, gas density and other process characteristics of the water and wastewater systems. Tests, maintains, and calibrates electronic and pneumatic instrumentation devices used in process control in the water and wastewater systems. Installs, tests, and maintains UPS units for a variety of AC-powered equipment. Programs and repairs printed circuit boards, integrated circuitry, and microprocessors. Participates in the drafting or interpretation of schematics, charts, blueprints, and specifications. Recommends changes in designs and system modification. Troubleshoots and repairs equipment in the field and performs corrective and preventive maintenance. Maintains accurate and detailed records, charts, work orders, and logs. Supervises and trains lesser skilled workers. Drives an automobile, light truck or utility vehicle to transport workers, tools or materials between job sites. Maintains and calibrates various confined space meters, chlorine and sulfur dioxide meters, and various other gas meters. Works with various contractors to perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and calibration on an as-needed basis. Minimum Qualification Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of function, installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of electronic instrumentation and specialized machinery used in water and wastewater operations Knowledge of digital, analog, and solid-state electronics, safety procedures, and electrical codes Working knowledge of electronic test equipment and skill in using such equipment to diagnose problems and design and implement solutions Skill in operating tools and testing equipment Skill in reading and interpreting electrical codes, blueprints, plans, and schematics Ability to work on a cooperative, courteous, and effective basis Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, work and stand for prolonged periods of time Ability to drive a county vehicle while carrying out assignments. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions such as odors, noise, and inside and outside environmental conditions EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED Certificate. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience in installing, maintaining, repairing, and calibrating electronic pneumatic instrumentation equipment in an industrial or water/wastewater setting. LICENSE: Valid Class C non-commercial driver's license with no more than three (3) points. Please be advised this position requires a valid Class "C" driver's license. SAFETY: Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations, and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position. Notes CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT - WATER & SEWER: The nature of operation requires an employee to be available on a shift, on-call, and/or emergency basis. The employee could be contacted by pager or cell phone and the use of a pager or cell for contact is required. Work is on a rotating shift basis including weekends, so as to control the proper operation of the facilities. The employee will be required to maintain his/her license in good standing. Associate of Arts Degree in the instrumentation of electronics technology from an accredited college, OR similar military training, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required experience.
