POSITION OVERVIEW: We are looking for an Instrumentation & Controls Technician to join our Maintenance department with our Lawton, Michigan team. The candidate must be able to demonstrate high level of proficiency in instrumentation & controls maintenance for all plant production and processing equipment to meet established production requirements. The candidate will be responsible for maintenance of all seasonal equipment. The candidate must also maintain average proficiency in other skill areas so that one may assist in projects and other maintenance work as needed . JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Electrical Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams (both construction and schematic Install conduit, wiring, control panels and control centers Install, repair, service automatic control devices such as photo-electric equipment, proximity switches, etc Install and repair power and control wiring Effectively troubleshoot and repair complex circuitry Perform all phases of preventative maintenance on electrical equipment and controls Install, maintain, and troubleshoot in plant communication equipment (excluding outside telephone system, fax, etc) Electronic Read and interpret electronic schematics Troubleshoot and repair electronic circuitry Install, effectively troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment such as ground fault systems and recorders/controllers Understand PLC ladder logic Program, troubleshoot and repair Programmable Logic Controllers Has responsibilities in the following areas: HACCP - adhere to all requirements for Welch's employees as outlined in Corporate and Lawton HACCP Manual. SQF - Adhere to all requirements for Welch's employees as outlined in Corporate and Lawton SQF Manual. Food Defense - Adhere to all requirements for Welch's employees as outlined in Corporate and Lawton Food Defense Manual Regular use of hands to feel or handle and regular reaching with hands and arms Frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and kneeling Occasional lifting of 50 lbs Other duties required contributing to the achievement of group goals in the areas of safety, quality, appearance, reliability, cost and continuous improvement. Self-motivation with little direction is key. Must be able to work well with others. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS: Cross-functional demonstrated skills in Electrical, PLC, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Motors, motion control, and mechanical systems. PLC programming and troublshooting skills. Demonstrated ability to safely work on and around complex, highly automated machinery in a non-temperature regulated environment. Strong troubleshooting, verbal and written communication skills to effectively present to other maintenance technicians, and operators. Proactive and able to work independently. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a high school diploma or GED or equivalent. Certification in electrical and or instrumentation and process control is recommended. Minimum of 2 yrs related, applicable experience in machine maintenance and repair. Applicant must pass our standard test, the minimizer (do-nothing machine), maintenance test, and electrical basics test. Experience in food manufacturing preferred.
