Instructor, Nursing - Watauga CampusSalary: $4,486.00 - $5,235.00 MonthlyOpening Date: 02/11/20 Closing Date: 03/03/20 11:59 PM Description: Assists in the coordination of the academic subject matter of the Nursing program; instructs classes, clinicals, and labs in assigned division; coordinates assigned activities with other college programs, divisions, departments and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director, Nursing Program.Example of Duties:Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Essential Functions: Plan and participate in the instruction of classes for the Nursing program; prepare supplemental materials and tests; maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance. Instruct 15-22 contact hours; prepare objectives, assignments, grading standards, attendance polices and course syllabus to be distributed at first class meeting; select text books; prepare, proctor and grade tests; prepare instructional materials and aids. Provide supervisor with objectives and course outlines for each class; begin and end each class on time; turn in reports, final grades and other forms on time; revise course content and objectives as required; administer student evaluations each quarter; develop new courses in field as required. Assist in the development, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of the program curriculum activities and operations of the nursing program; evaluate and ensure that operations meet the goals and objectives of the college and the needs of the student population; monitor program systems and procedures. Participate in the development of the Nursing work plan; participate in work activities, projects and programs; coordinate work products, methods and procedures. Assist in the development of the instructional schedule, syllabi, special courses and programs; ensure instructional meets the needs of the community; initiates new courses, programs and grants. Participate in the academic program's efforts to recruit and retain students; participate in the review and revision of program publications, publicity and other community relations activities. Provide leadership in the orientation of part-time faculty members. Participate in the selection, use and maintenance of equipment and facilities assigned to the program. Attend scheduled nursing faculty meetings, seminars and conferences; make presentations to outside agencies as a representative of the college; stay abreast of new developments in the assigned area of study by attending professional meetings and continuing education workshops. Schedule regular office hours for consultation with students and faculty; ensure availability during non-scheduled hours by appointment; work closely with probationary advisees; counsel students in academic and employment planning; keep current on graduation and transfer requirements. Participate in Nursing program content to ensure adherence to State and National standards. Provide the Director, Nursing Program with current, unrestricted license or multi-state licensure privilege to practice as registered nurse in North Carolina at time of renewal. Assist in developing, preparing, documenting, and presenting assigned courses of instruction. Assist in developing, implementing and enforcing program and institutional policies. Make student clinical assignments to include orientation of nursing students to the clinical area, demonstration of proper procedures and clinical assignments, supervision of clinical performance, evaluation and counseling of each student as to progress and performance. Assist with admission, registration and orientation of nursing students. Participate in professional development activities and required employee training.Marginal Functions: Serve on a variety of committees and study groups; research and develop recommendations related to academic and instructional programs; maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping instructional programs current with occupational or academic field. Participate in the development and delivery of public information efforts; support college functions/cultural activities; assist in the placement of students. Conduct inventory of program equipment; assume responsibilities for labs, shops and other facilities designed primarily for the Nursing program. Participate in community activities to promote the nursing program and nursing profession. The mission, goals and objectives of CCC & TI. Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures. Principles and procedures of record keeping. Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration. Safe work practices and procedures. Operational characteristics of equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned. Advanced principles and practices of instructional development and instructional strategies. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment. Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment. Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regula­tions.Ability to: Interpret and apply college and assigned division goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Contribute to the development of academic mission, goals and objectives which complement those of the college. Prepare clear and concise administrative and financial reports. Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Provide classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to students. Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Department. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Operate a variety of mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: standing or sitting for extended periods of time moderate lifting and carrying operating assigned equipment. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: making observations reading and writing operating assigned equipment communicating with others handling varied tasks simultaneously. Maintain mental capacity which permits: making sound decisions and using good judgment demonstrating intellectual capabilities. Effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve: working closely with others periodically working irregular hours Environmental Conditions:Office, classroom, lab, or clinical environment; working closely with others; working irregular hours, days, and schedule.Physical Conditions:Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate lifting; general manual dexterity; ability to distinguish color; exposure to computer screens; potentially hazardous chemicals. Vision, hearing, motor skills and communication skills sufficient to adequately supervise nursing students in a clinical setting.Experience and Training: Experience:Two years of experience as a registered nurse in acute care setting. Current, unrestricted license as a registered nurse in NC or current, unrestricted multi-state licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.Training:Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university required, Master's degree in nursing preferred. Prior to or within first three years of employment, must have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation and evaluation, appropriate to assignment and complete Master's of Science in nursing.License or Certificate:Possession of a current unrestricted license or multi-state licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
