General Description: Raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to formcompleted structures and/or structural frameworks. May erect metal warehouses and/orassemble prefabricated metal buildings. Essential Functions: • Assemble hoisting equipment and rigging, such as cables, pulleys, and hooks, to moveheavy equipment and materials.• Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, orwelding into place.• Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructionsfrom supervisors.• Drive drift pins through rivet holes in order to align rivet holes in structural-steel memberswith corresponding holes in previously placed members.• Erect metal and precast concrete components for structures.• Fasten structural-steel members to hoist cables, using chains, cables, or rope.• Force structural-steel members into final positions, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks,and hand tools.• Hoist steel beams, girders, and columns into place, using cranes, or signal hoistingequipment operators to lift and position structural-steel members.• Pull, push, or pry structural-steel members into approximate positions for bolting intoplace.• Ride on girders or other structural-steel members to position them, or use rope to guidethem into position.• Unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting as needed.• Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members, using plumb bobs,laser equipment, transits, and/or levels.• Catch hot rivets in buckets, and insert rivets in holes, using tongs.• Cut, bend, and weld steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment.• Dismantle structures and equipment.• Fabricate metal parts such as steel frames, columns, beams, and girders, according toblueprints or instructions from supervisors.• Hold rivets while riveters use air-hammers to form heads on rivets.• Insert sealing strips, wiring, insulating material, ladders, flanges, gauges, and valves,depending on types of structures being assembled.• Place blocks under reinforcing bars used to reinforce floors.• Read specifications and blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, and sizes ofmaterials required.• Duties may include light administration and assistance to Project Superintendent. Competencies: • Collaboration Skills• Communication Proficiency• Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills• Time management – ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines• Interpretation of Construction Drawings• Ethical Conduct• Ability to use math/complete calculations Physical Demands: Field/Jobsite Environment – Standing, sitting, climbing, crawling, standing, crouching, bending,pushing/pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to loud noises are to be expectedon a jobsite environment. This position is predominately outdoors at an Industrial ConstructionSite. Exposure to extreme hot or cold outside temperatures is possible. Position Type/Expected Work Hours: This is a full-time, hourly position. Days and hours of work vary from each jobsite. Occasionalevening/weekend work or travel may be required as job duties demand. Required Education and Experience: • 3+ years of field experience as a Class-A Industrial Iron Worker / Structural Fitter• Must hold NCCER Certification or willing to test (Ironworker and/or Rigger)Industry Related Requirements:• Must hold a valid TWIC Card• Must hold a valid OSHA Basic Plus• Must be able to pass all Safety Council related courses• Must undergo Pre-Employment Screening (physical, drug & alcohol screen, audiogram,fit test if applicable)• Must hold a valid Driver’s License to operate company equipment and/or vehiclesThe individual who occupies this position must not pose a direct threat or significant risk ofsubstantial harm to the health or safety of the individual or others that cannot be eliminated orreduced by reasonable accommodation Ironworker/Structural Fitter/Rigger will be responsible to have the following tools: • Hard Hat • Soap Stone/Keel• Safety Glasses • Center Punch• Steel Toe Boots w/ defined heel • Torpedo Level• Gloves • 2’ Level• Tool Belt • Squares• Bolt Bag • 2lb Hammer• 25’ Tape Measure • Socket Set up to 1 ¼”• 12’ Adjustable Wrench • Plumb Bob• Spud Wrench – ¾” & 7/8” hard bolt • Screwdrivers• Slever Bar • Snap Line Chalk Box• Bull Pins
