In-Gallery Learning Youth Intern Summer 2024 Museum of Science, Boston www.mos.org Program Description: In-Gallery Learning encompasses visitor programs throughout the Museum, including within Engineering Design Workshop (EDW), Hall of Human Life (HHL), Charles River Field Station (FS), and additional in-gallery learning spaces. EDW engages visitors in facilitated hands-on engineering activities designed to introduce visitors to the engineering design process and help visitors think like engineers. HHL engages visitors in hands-on activities and interpretations designed to help visitors explore biology and human health. FS engages visitors in environmental science experiences that help visitors understand the environment they live in. Position Summary: In-Gallery Learning Summer Youth Interns (10 openings) will primarily assist in the facilitation of drop-in activities that engage visitors in EDW, HHL, FS, and additional in-gallery learning spaces. Interns will support the daily operations of these spaces by assisting in set-up and break-down of activities, maintaining and preparing activity materials, and cleaning materials as needed. Through on the floor training and professional development, Summer Youth Interns will learn facilitation techniques and best practices for engaging visitors of all ages. Responsibilities: Interact directly with Museum visitors of all ages and backgrounds by facilitating drop-in activities in In-Gallery Learning spaces including EDW, HHL, and FS for 4+ hours each day. Assist the staff in daily operation and maintenance of spaces by ensuring the spaces are ready for visitor use by preparing and maintaining materials and cleaning materials as needed. Represent the IGL spaces and act as an Ambassador for the Museum by welcoming visitors and providing excellent customer service. Participate in ongoing trainings and professional development. Basic Qualifications: Currently between the ages of 14-19 and enrolled in high school or an equivalent educational program Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team Interest in and enthusiasm for interacting with diverse Museum visitors Demonstrated interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and/or education Highly motivated, dependable, and flexible Salary: All summer youth internship positions pay $15.00/hour Special Notes : Intern benefits include free parking in the Museum garage, close proximity to the Green Line, free admission, discounts in the Museum store and café and much more!
