Be a Star at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts! Hosts/Hostesses are responsible for greeting customers in a friendly manner and organizing table seating based on reservations. This is a great position for someone looking to get started in the hospitality field. Work is split between our candle lit indoor dining room and our beautiful outdoor stage located along the Downtown Riverwalk. Located in downtown Tampa, the Straz offers flexible hours, event-based schedules including evenings and weekends, and a team-based work environment. Straz benefits for part-time staff include employee discounts and a 403(b) plan. Essential Functions: Welcome and greet arriving guests, seat guests at tables, ensure flow of operations, and acknowledge departing guests in a friendly manner. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests. Knowledge of Straz Center menus and products. Handle cash accurately. Maintain clean service and dining areas. Be ready and willing to assist servers as situations arise. Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working. Complete daily paperwork neatly and accurately. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to work with a schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays. Possess basic math skills and have ability to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system. Customer service skills and experience. Be able to work in a stand up for position for long periods of time (minimum 5 hours). Prior experience preferred, but not required. Education and Work Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Prior experience as a Host/Hostess in a full-service, high-volume restaurant preferred, but not required. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary for extended periods of time and use the computer and telephone. The employee is occasionally required to move up to 25lbs, reach, ascend/descend atop ladders, and move in confined spaces.
