Description:
The USSTRATCOM History Office requires the services of a senior military or diplomatic historian and an experienced archivist (or librarian) to deliver timely and accurate historical support to the CDR and CCMD staff. Historical support services include documenting the USSTRATCOM contribution to national security policy through research and writing of the USSTRATCOM official history; developing, researching, and writing other historical products; conducting, transcribing, and editing oral history interviews; researching and responding to requests for information; and providing professional archival management, research, and reference services. Knowledge of a broad range of historical fields, with emphasis on one or more of the following: modern military history, strategic deterrence theory, post-World War II defense policy, post-World War II foreign policy, kinetic and non-kinetic strategic weapons and warfare, arms control and disarmament, and/or strategic nuclear/ nuclear weapons planning and policy. Knowledge of guidelines and instructions dealing with the protection of classified information, the release of sensitive information and the Freedom of Information Act. Professional knowledge of historical principles, concepts, research, sources, methodology, and techniques with an advanced degree in History. Requires 5 or more years of demonstrated relevant experience. Knowledge and understanding of effective techniques required to conduct oral history interviews and research. Ability to critically evaluate sources of information and establish validity of historical facts. Skill and ability to plan detailed and complex studies, anticipate and solve problems, and to collect, organize, and interrelate large amounts of diversely formatted data drawn from a wide variety of sources.
