Job Purpose: A heavy equipment operator drives or controls construction equipment, including bulldozers, forklifts, backhoes, dump trucks, cargo trucks, and hydraulic truck cranes. They operate this equipment to assist in the construction of structures, including bridges, roads, and buildings.Heavy equipment operators usually specialize in one of three areas. Heavy Equipment Operators, also called operating engineers, handle loading and excavation machines. They use these machines to dig and lift sand, gravel, or earth. Paving and surface equipment operators use machines to spread concrete and asphalt during the construction of roadways. Job Duties: May operate a variety of heavy mechanical equipment that requires technical expertise or specialized training. Heavy mechanical equipment to include but not limited to - dump trucks, water trucks, front end loaders, dozers, compactors, excavators, skid steers, motor graders, etc. in a safe and efficient manner. Loads and unloads materials from trucks and other conveyances. Shovel's dirt, gravel, sand, and other materials. Clean equipment as scheduled and/or required. Assist and/or perform daily safety and maintenance checks. Inspects equipment, and/or components daily to identify hazards, defects, necessary adjustments, and repairs. Ensure heavy equipment is clean, maintained, and securely stored. Advise the foreman and/or mechanic of any requirements for maintenance or repairs. Participate in routine maintenance. Practice workplace safety. Adheres to safety and work performance standards to comply with OSHA, company, and other agency regulations. May require 100% travel to various job sites. Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures. Provide recommendations for maintaining and improving environmental performance. Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers. Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner. Collect and dispose of scrap, excess materials, and refuse. Observe distribution of paving material to adjust machine settings or material flow and indicate low spots for workers to add material. Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation. Skills/Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules. Experience, Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: 1 year of construction experience Valid State of Texas driver's license with clean driving record and have own transportation. Clean criminal background that adheres to EEOC and other government regulations as it relates to specific projects and expectations.
