PURPOSE: The Health and Beauty Aid (HABA) Clerk I position allows you the opportunity to exhibit your excellent customer service skills while interacting with our valued shoppers. Additionally, this position will require the performance of tasks such as, greeting customers, answering queries about products for sale, including ordering, receiving, stocking and displaying general merchandise. To be successful in this position you must be someone who cares about delivering a great customer shopping experience and who has a wide-ranging interest for working with the following products; including but is not limited to health and beauty products, over-the-counter medicines, candy, magazines, tourist items, and seasonal merchandise. DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES: The essential duties of the Health and Beauty Aid (HABA) Clerk I consist of, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities Report to work for scheduled shifts, on-time and appropriately uniformed. Maintain punctual and regular attendance. Stand in designated working area for duration of scheduled shift, which may exceed 8 hours per day. Work overtime as assigned. Dress and groom according to Company policy including uniform and name badge. Maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance at all times and observe company appearance regulations. Maintain a positive attitude and spirit of cooperation within the department. This includes the degree of cooperation, communication, and coordination between this position and its peers in other departments. Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance. Display consistent, courteous treatment of customers, i.e. this means to smile and greet each customer and act professional at all times. Assist customers in retrieving items from inaccessible areas or in obtaining products that are either located in warehouse or items they may have difficulty handling. Climb a ladder to retrieve items from overhead racks and storage areas. Making it understood with all the employees that come in contact with customers, that THE CUSTOMER IS THE FIRST PRIORITY; that the store is in the forefront of that activity; and that every member of the team is here to fully support that priority with prompt and friendly service. Perform all duties in accordance with Company rules, policies, safety requirements, and security standards and all Local, State and Federal health and civil code regulations. Be knowledgeable in and able to differentiate between all of the various type of HABA/GM merchandise. Check prices and be knowledgeable about location of items in the store. Promote for sale any current charitable promotions to Customers. Maintain acceptable shelf and display conditions by stocking, cleaning, straightening and rotating product. Assure the highest possible levels of cleanliness and safety within the entire department. Maintain all grocery areas in a clean and orderly manner, especially those areas of high visibility and during high traffic periods of time. Keep floor clear of debris and spills. Sweep and mop floors, dust and face shelves and lift and carry out trash containers. When directed, order merchandise to maintain inventory and control out-of-stocks and over-stocks and to maximize sales turnover. Under the direction of the management, mark down outdated products on a daily basis to promote sales of unsold goods and maintain the stores image for the highest quality for grocery products. Accurately record markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise and bad merchandise/spoilage write-offs in accordance with company policies. Handle damaged or spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods. Follow approved procedures for receiving and storing products to ensure quality protection and product rotation. Keep all general merchandise items rotated in accordance with store policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest product first (first in, first out), and take stock to applicable storage and shelf areas. Assist in receiving and unloading merchandise; check and verify receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered; check product for quality, count, and condition. Become familiar with invoice documents and confirm accuracy of item descriptions, size, quantities, and pricing during vendor product deliveries. Open cartons and display, store or break down items according to established procedures and policies. Price items accurately and legibly; keep store management informed of pricing problem areas and discrepancies. Comply with safety policies and procedures. Safeguard the HABA/GM inventory to reduce spoilage and pilferage. Notify management of policy violations that is having an adverse effect on department operations. Notify management of low inventory conditions or excessive product spoilage problems. Understand and adhere to Company shrink guidelines as relates to departmental operations. Observe security standards by staying alert and being aware of customer actions and behavior reported to manager any abnormal behavior. Complete all applicable department training programs. During any slow periods, to stay productive, performing other duties as assigned by the Health and Beauty Aid (HABA) Manager. Assist other department as assigned by your supervisor in the performance of their duties so that they will be familiar with and able to handle all jobs and positions within the department. PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language. Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and be able to communicate effectively with department employees, the store's coworkers and customers; Company handbooks, policies and procedures, and; Other written job-related documents including safety notices and other postings on company bulletin boards. Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and ability to adjust focus including having sufficient visual acuity to check and verify invoices and other written documents. Ability to fill out forms and compose and write reports. Ability to perform basic math. Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift. Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift 50 lbs. Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties. Ability to work in varying temperatures, as needed. Ability to interact with Customers in a friendly and helpful way. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment will be completed in a climate-controlled retail grocery store environment; on occasion work environment may include occasional exposure to outdoor areas during rain, cold, sunny, warm or freezing conditions in order to accomplish tasks as hand.
