JOB SUMMARY: General Superintendent will provide on-site supervision and oversee all phases directly related to the heavy civil construction projects. The General Superintendent will coordinate with the On-Site Superintendents, Forman, Quality Control Managers, Safety Officers, and Environmental Representatives, along with Subcontractors and Vendors; to ensure that all work is being performed in a safe and timely manner in-accordance with all contract and requirements and scheduled timeframes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The General Superintendent is considered as a highly qualified position, with responsibilities covering jobsite safety, project documentation, scheduling, quality control and successful project completion. Following is a list of primary tasks of the expected for this position. Some of these may be delegated to jobsite personnel; however, the General Superintendent holds the ultimate responsibility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the crews to ensure that each project is completed on time and within the estimated budget. This includes safety, quality, productivity, and schedule adherence. Determination of manpower and equipment needs, project scheduling, personnel hiring, equipment maintenance, tool and material requirements and managing subcontractor Ensures that project rules, procedures and programs are followed consistently, including those involving quality control, safety, and environmental compliance, along with workplace behavior standards. Review, understand, and implement construction project documents such as contracts, plans, specifications, drawings, job layout, as-builts. Accurately maintain and keeps current all construction documents (change orders, schedules, purchase orders, RFI's, submittals, daily dairies, and quantity books. Monitor and analysis labor, equipment, and materials on a daily basis, to ensure project is meeting established budgets in accordance with project estimates. Oversee and track inventory of supplies and materials to guard against loss and to ensure that vital materials are ordered and delivered to meet schedule. Create, review and update project schedule and three-week look ahead scheduling. Coordinate plans and specifications with Project Management Team, identifying and clarifying any discrepancies. This includes developing, documenting, and communicating, change conditions and/or changes made in the field. Conduct effective construction planning sessions and project site meetings. Obtain or verify that the subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposes. Supervise and develop the project team; establish credibility among project employees, owners, clients, engineers, trade contractors. Lead with positive attitude toward policies pertaining to safety, and regularly works to foster a safe work environment. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience in constructing dams, roads and bridges in accordance with Federal and State Department of Transportation requirements. Four-year degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or construction experience. Must be able to read plans and specifications, along with critical path schedules construction contracts, subcontracts, and other construction documents. Display strong written and oral communication skills. ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs. Ability to initiate and maintain business relationships - including working effectively with owners, engineers, co-workers, subcontractors, suppliers, and the public. Analyze problems and makes sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications, and costs. Tactful and mature demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities. Excellent knowledge of industry standard means and methods, materials, and equipment. Thorough understanding of project documents, plans, specifications, and special requirements or conditions of such job sites. Ability to supervise construction projects from general plans and instructions given and to determine the proper amounts of labor, materials, tools, and equipment needed. Lead projects with a mindset of Safety First. Communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and crew, utilizing strong organizational skills and technical and communication skills. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to use a computer programs and have proficient use of PC and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to become familiar with the project management software used by the company. Must be able to pass Government Background Investigations and obtain clearances onto military installations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the essential functions of this job, this position requires the ability to stand, walk, use hands, and handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, lift above their head, and talk or hear. Able to to kneel, crouch or stoop, climb ladders, bend at the waist, squat, and crawl in tight or confined spaces to perform the essential functions. This position will require the ability to lift, manually move or push in excess of 75 pounds. Ascending and descending ladders or stairs is required, and movement on uneven terrain is frequently required to carry out essential duties. Expected work hours will vary by job, location, and season. Working a night shift may be required from time to time. May be required to travel and/or live-in remote construction project locations as required for whatever periods of time as are necessary to complete such projects.
