Job Description Position Title: Planer Operator Division: Millwork Purpose How does the position contribute to the success of the operation, division and company? The Planer Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, performing TPM, verifying correct lumber, and cleaning the Planer. Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations and Performance Measures What measures or metrics will the individual be measured on and what level of performance is required? Other duties may be assigned. Operate the Planer safely. Comply with standard operating procedures and safety policies. Setup the Planer in a reasonable amount of time. Observe production and monitor equipment to maintain efficient operation. Dislodge and clear jammed materials or stickers from machinery and equipment. Communicate with Material Handler and Production Supervisor when materials are needed or are ready to move. Perform basic maintenance and TPM on the Planer. Train coworkers to perform all responsibilities of a Planer Operator. Read moisture meter to ensure lumber meets moisture requirements. Include any degrees, certifications, and licenses required. High school diploma preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and read a caliper. Reporting Line and Supervisory Responsibilities The Planer Operator reports to the Production Supervisor. Physical Demands and Work Environment What working conditions or physical functions are normally required to perform the essential functions of the job? The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical manufacturing environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Ability to frequently flip boards weighing 30 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
