SUMMARY: Supports the Superintendent and mechanics with data entry, part ordering/inventory, minor repair assists, vehicle transportation and maintenance facility and/or equipment upkeep. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Enters and maintains accurate data into the vehicle maintenance systems, asset management systems, parts inventory and fuel systems and/or software. Picks up parts; sorts and organizes parts inventory room; picks-up and drops-off vehicles. Monitors and maintains sufficient inventory levels for various fleet resource needs in a timely and consistent manner. May assist with light vehicle maintenance. Cleans shop, parts room, and office area. Answers calls for Public Works as needed. This position is classified as Critical Personnel for citywide emergency response. Performs other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or equivalent; AND some mechanical repair experience preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of: Department policies and procedures. Safety policies procedures, and practices. Asset inventory software (RTA preferred) and Preventive maintenance software systems. Methods, parts, equipment, and tools used in vehicles and equipment maintenance and repair. Skill in: Part ordering and department procurement procedures. Replacement part and/or manual research skills via internet or applicable resource. Good oral and written communication skills. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Performing accurate data entry. Operating a computer. Ability to drive a vehicle. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Valid States Driver's License required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an automotive repair shop. This position requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
