Reports To: Facilities Manager/Principal/Assistant Principal Position Summary: Under the direction of the school leadership team, the Facilities Team Member provides for a safe, secure, and inviting school environment. The facilities team member cleans and maintains the school building and grounds, sets up equipment for special events, supports school safety and security, assists school personnel with work requests, and facilitates compliance task completion. In addition, the Facilities Team Member is required to reflect the school's mission and vision in interactions with students, staff, families, and stakeholders and elevate the school's image in the eyes of the community. Further, the Facilities Team Member forms positive, professional relationships with the entire school community. Varying work hours are required including days, evenings, and weekends. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are generally representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. KEY COMPETENCIES/DUTIES: Cleans assigned areas of the building. Assists with general cleanup of the school. Implements COVID or other infectious disease protocols when required. Handles emergency cleaning as needed (e.g. bodily fluids, burst water pipes). Disposes of hazardous materials in accordance with city and district protocols. Inspects, maintains, and may make minor repairs on the heating and cooling systems, boilers, and electrical, mechanical, and sound equipment. Changes air filters as needed. Maintains and may repair custodial equipment (including equipment for grounds upkeep). Maintains and may repair school fixtures and furniture. Assembles furniture. Assists students by opening or repairing lockers, changing locker combinations, opening doors, setting up bleachers, etc. Cares for the grounds, including watering, fertilizing, mowing, and trimming the lawns, picking up trash, and removing ice and snow when necessary. Operates snowplows, lawn mowers, and other maintenance equipment. Disposes of trash within and outside of the building, using dumpsters, recycling bins, and other receptacles. Prepares and maintains athletic fields and gym floors. Installs and maintains athletic equipment. Assists in stripping, waxing, cleaning, polishing, and/or refinishing floors. Sets up equipment for special school events or programs and cleans up afterwards. Secures the building daily and after special events. Works with the public on community functions held at the school--setting up equipment, assisting with crowd control, cleanup, etc. Assists with heavy lifting and other tasks. Assists with cafeteria cleanup and waste disposal. Cleans up spills. Assists in maintaining security of building, which may include locking and unlocking the building, performing weekend and holiday building checks, and maintaining the fire and burglar alarms. On call for emergencies or to open or close the building. May be required to work on Sundays, holidays, early morning, etc. for snow removal or other emergency work. Checks emergency lights, fire extinguishers, and AED machines regularly. Reports any concerns with these machines to the Facilities Manager or School Administrator. Stocks supply shelves and distributes supplies (books, paper, etc.) throughout the school. Checks incoming shipments and signs for supplies. Assists school personnel with work requests and errands. May assist with building scheduling, inventory, or other paperwork. Opens classrooms for substitute teachers, students, community school, etc. May be requested to call the district to request repairs and to assist district maintenance workers with repairs. May be required to assist in maintaining inventory of school supplies or to submit reports. Assists in maintaining order. Closes maintenance tickets in the ticketing system. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School diploma or equivalent Completion of all required facilities training programs through the network or district. At least one year of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to read and write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Basic understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures. Knowledge of emergency procedures. Ability to use or repair small and medium equipment and machinery. Ability to do considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 100 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job. Ability to work in an environment that involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Ability to work under moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Ability to perform physical labor under varying conditions (i.e. weather, tight timelines, Ability to use small office equipment and computers. Ability to maintain property and inventory. Ability to use and respond to email. Ability to use online platforms (i.e. timekeeping system, ticketing systems). Ability to collaborate with staff members and manage conflicts professionally. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions: balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
