TO BE HIRED FOR THIS JOB YOU MUST BE AN OFFICER WITH A GOVERNMENT LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS. DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT AS A POLICE OFFICER! EIG/CBM SECURITY OFFICER REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to the Catering by Michaels event Function Director RESPONSIBLITIES: - Patrol buildings and grounds to observe and identify potential security and safety risks or undesirable conditions such as fires, theft and vandalism. Ensure that only authorized personnel are present in back-of-the-house areas or restricted areas.- Performs protective and enforcement functions in a courteous and restrained manner while coping with emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances and threats to life and property to maintain a safe and secure environment.- Demonstrate knowledge of the location emergency action and evacuation plans.- Demonstrate knowledge in the location of all fire extinguishing equipment.- To immediately notify the Function Director on duty of any serious concerns, hazards or unusual conditions.- Respond to calls for assistance with controlling disorderly or combative employees or guests, first aid, etc.- To exercise sound judgment and the use of available information to resolve issues and in taking appropriate action when dealing with employees, clients, guests, and the public.- Ability to demonstrate the use of positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist in maintaining proper behavior or conduct during private functions.- In the event of emergency, maintains order and safety of personnel; serve as a liaison with emergency response unit(s).- Sounds alarm in case of fire and calls 911 for all emergencies.- Will serve as an escort for staff, guests, or clients.- Must be conscious of the need to maintain confidentiality and adhere to company values at all times.- Performs other duties as assigned. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND CRITERIA: - Must be at least 21 years of age.- Must possess a valid and current driver's license at the time of employment and must be maintained during employment.- Must not have been convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to: a felony in any jurisdiction; a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, acts of dishonesty or acts against government authority, including the use and/or possession of a controlled substance within seven years; any crime in any jurisdiction involving sale, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance.- Must not have been declared by any court to be incompetent by reason of mental disease or defect that has not been removed or expunged.- Must furnish all information about prior employment.- Must possess strong interpersonal, oral communication, and problem solving skills.- Must demonstrate maturity, a professional demeanor, good judgment, diplomacy, and sound conflict/crisis intervention skills for managing employee or guest complaints.- Requires the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a diverse population- Must have the ability to remain objective while listening to conflicting perspectives.- Must set a good example in attitude and display of personal actions at all times. - Must be able to spend majority of time on foot patrol, walking on location. - Excellent hearing and visual ability required for observing and detecting signs of emergency situations.- Must be flexible with scheduling and willing to work beyond scheduled shift if necessary. AUTHORITIES: 1. To take corrective action to ensure guest and employee safety is maintained.2. To take appropriate action to secure or protect employee, guest, or Company property.3. May contact law enforcement personnel as necessary. GENERAL INFORMATION: - Most shifts may vary in starting and ending times. Flexibility in all aspects of their job responsibilities and in a shift scheduling rotation will be required. In general the shifts will include day, mid-afternoon, evening, and late night. - There will be a wide variety of miscellaneous responsibilities and duties to ensure location safety & security personnel are productive throughout their assigned shift. These may include but are not limited to: porter duties, event set-up and tear down, emergency equipment upkeep, safety and environmental, etc. LOCATIONS: You will be assigned to one of the following locations when you receive your schedule of shifts:1. Front door of Audubon Hall (IG)2. Native Gardens (IG)3. North Patio, Grassy Knoll or Observation deck (IG) UNIFORM: For events at the Native Gardens, North Patio, Grassy Knoll, North Patio, or Observation deck:Black Slacks and EIG Security Beige Shirt (tucked in) with black dress shoesFor events at the Audubon Hall:Suit or sport coat & slacks with matching dress shoes START OF SHIFT: When you arrive at Independence Grove you are to immediately notify the Catering by Michaels event function director that you there. When your shift is finished you must again check in with the Function Director. Please initial your sign-in and sign-out times on the staff time sheet, as this will make sure that everyone is paid for the correct number of hours worked. LOCATION SPECIFIC TASKS: Native Garden:Assist EIG Staff with set-up of area with chairs, etc. Your job before and after the event is to secure the area and equipment from the public. During the event your responsibilities are to keep the entrances secure and help maintain the privacy of the event. You will also be responsible for assisting guests with directions around the park and to and from Audubon Hall.Audubon Hall:Secure the front door of the building from public access. You are to accept boxed gifts from guests and place them in an appropriate and secure location. You are not to accept envelopes or cards and should politely refuse if asked to do so. Greet clients and guests. Open/hold the door for guests and provide directions. Grassy Knoll, Observation Deck, North Patio:Specific descriptions will be provided when you are assigned the shift. GENERAL REMINIDERS: In order to provide the most secure, safe and private environment possible security guards are asked to be mindful of the following while working:• Sitting - You should spend most of your shift on your feet. Sitting for short periods is acceptable only when clients and guests are not present.• Cell phone use - All CBM employees may only use cell phones for emergency purposes at events.• Reading - Books and magazines are acceptable but should only be read when no guests are present. Security Guards must always be attentive and available to all guests of the Forest Preserve.• Eating - All CBM employees should eat before coming to work. Meals will be provided to employees when a shift is longer than 5 hours. Meals are usually provided later in the shift and must be eaten in a designated employee break area. Food should never be eaten where it might be visible to a client or guest. It is acceptable to keep a non-alcoholic beverage with you at your assigned location. When at IG meals purchased from the café will receive a 30% discount.• Computer Use - CBM computer systems are for use only by sales staff and are not to be used by event staff at any time.• Parking - Security Guards must park with all other CBM employees in the employee parking lot.• Weapons - Should you desire to carry your weapon please do so in a concealed manner.
